Hey Big John,
I am hesitant to speak about lake conditions as it tends to get blown out of proportion.
We have a weather system moving in right now (Friday mid-day) and it might drop a bit of moisture.
However the high desert is unlikely to retain any of that moisture for more than a matter of hours.

None of you will be here for more than a month so the current conditions will just get you excited about nothing.

If it rains the day you leave home, will you turn around and cancel your trip?
I think not.

We've had some of the most fun times at Elmer's during rain events.
Remember the day on the trails when the surface was damp?

I don't mean to squash anybody's excitement, but let's bother to worry about the things that worry will change, and leave the weather to Earl (our local wind gawd) and his buddies.

Oh... BTW... If you wish to drink with us you must bring a shot glass attached to a HotWheels car.
(Usually glued or epoxied to the top of the car, but it's a free dictaorship)

Drinking with Corey

Gee Corey,

I even saved the urine collection bottle from my surgery so I could drink just like you do

Now I have to buy a hotwheels car, too!

Hey,
It's the Wednesday after that Friday posting of the impending weather system moving in.
Saturday night, Sunday day and night and Monday morning brought about an inch of rain to the area.
We've had a 2 day respite and another system is expected tonight.

The two dry days did a marvelous job of evaporating most of the standing water on the playa.

A huge benefit of this wet/dry cycle is how it smooths the surface.
Coupled with the wind-powered only restricted nature of the lakebed, we should have an exceptional surface this year.

The cow-holes, created 3-4 years ago when some cattle were allowed to cross Ivanpah after a rain and left hoof craters that sported dried ridges and made riding over them nearly impossible, have been nearly obliderated.

The landsailers on the playa the weekend before us will scuff things up more than anything else.
It isn't as dirty and dusty the rest of the year as it is the weekend after we're done.

The wind and rain gawds are doing this for YOU.
Be sure to thank them. :karate:

Oh When Will It Ever End?????

It's raining on the playa, my friends.

Now most of you don't understand how rain works here in the High Desert.
At home, when it rains... Everything gets wet.
Out here it can be much more transitory.

It rained nearly an inch last week, but Ivanpah was mostly dry two days later.
Last weekend, Roach was buggyable but Ivanpah was still a bit damp.

Today, Tuesday March 2nd is another rainy day. About 4/10th of an inch has fallen. Temps in the low 50's.

But by the weekend we are expecting temps in the 70's!!!!!
And some wind.

So the playa will be dry enough to buggy by Sunday.

See how it works?

We're in the midst of a drought lasting 4 years so far. This bit of precip is welcome.

The playa surface will welcome y'all in a month. :frog:

So are you coming?

See you in buggytown.

What A Difference Two Days Make... :D

When I last reported, it was raining.
Here it is Thursday and temps are expected to 70 today.

We're planning to buggy Ivanpah on Sunday.

Spoke to lvtdave today and he says Jeanna told him Elmer's is closed right now but they expect it to be open Saturday.

Surface conditions on both lakes is damp and rough right now but the edges will lay down and smoothness will rival a baby's booty in a week.

Are you ready to buggy?

Monday Morning Greetings.
What a fine buggy day on the playa at Ivanpah yesterday.
I told you!

The rain from last week is only a distant memory. I really mean it.

The entire lake bed is dry.

Winds yesterday were around 15 mph.
It would drop to 9-11 mph and gust up over 20 mph.
My HiTiger 30 was the right size.
I am about 180 pounds and I ride a PL Race.
I hit speeds in the mid-30's often and cruised for a few hours.

Y'all should've been here!

This coming weekend is expected to be in the mid-70's to low-80's and breezy

Know where I'll be?

Visit buggytown and find out :cool2:
