I've seen in the FAQ it's ok to camp on the lakebed, does this include RVs as well? We've got a small popup trailer that we're planning on bringing and camping out on the lakebed - is this ok?

Hey Kev I to have a pop up trailer that I plan on using during the event. Yes rv's are welcome on the lake bed in buggy town.

Camping is permitted on the lake bed as part of the organizers permit. The event organizer should have a copy of the event permit for all campers to post as per BLM requirments.

I took my 5th wheel out there last year and had a great time and no problems getting out there. There were several pops and other large RV's. Remember there is nowhere to dump waste water. I am sure tent campers and the people in cars throw out small amounts. Anything driping from or on the ground around a RV is always looked at diferently by the powers that be whether it is BLM, USFS or other state park management.

Sounds good, looking forwards to camping in buggy town, I hope to see some of the faces from SOBB as well. Should make it way easier to slip out for a late night buggy run as well.

Thinking about bringing the whole family down kids are 7,6 & 4 by then. Do you think they would be easily entertain?

Others have brought their kids.
Usually older kids, teens-and up.
Unless they are avid kiters, they will probably be bored within an hour.

There is nothing out on the playa.
Barren landscape from the tip of your nose to the horizon, or so it seems.

Exploring the brush along the shoreline is prohibited.
Motorized vehicles of any sort are prohibited.
RC vehicles (cars & planes - no water for boats) are prohibited.

While there are no rules barring kids, it really depends on the kids and if they want to be there.

As for being easily entertained, that is relative.
Many of us older kids are very easily entertained.
But then, I think we've been practicing.

Who watches them while you play?

I'm not trying to be discouraging, just realistic.

I was there last year, but i cant remeber how even the enterance to the lake bed was, this is my bus, will it get on ok? Also, where are the other larger RV guys staying this year, I remember hanging out on an RV with Gabe, Blake and I think Jon Ellis (sorry if I got the wrong names!).

Kids are welcome, families are welcome. In spite of the fact that some kids seem bored, i know of a group of kids, whom i thought were bored stiff during their stay with us. I see these kids from time to time, and they still talk about how much fun it was.

The thing to remember is, there are a lot of great people out here in our little family. Talk to everyone, and you are sure to meet some like minded folks, and have a little fun. Maybe don't send your younger kids to the mayors office, but even he, can be subverted!

I was wondering how early we can get on the lake bed under the NABX permit. We will be doing the pre-event this year but was thinking about getting to Ivanpah Monday. I remember hearing that last year something happened and caused more headache for the committee. If the NABX permit doesen't cover Monday is it hard to get a permit for the days before. I just want to make sure I don't cause issues that could effect everyone adversly.

If we are already registered can we get a copy of the rules and the NABX permit via e-mail.

You need to contact the BLM California Needles office by e-mail and ask for a permit. Just explain that you will be arriving before the event and would like a permit. I just had a friend get one he will be staying over past the event and he got his in about 2 weeks after contacting them. They know what a kite buggy is and there is no charge for the permit.

I have just applied for an early permit, fingers crossed it goes through, I arrive a week early.

Does anyone know that if my permit goes through, I can park my RV on the Lake Bed while my permit is valid?

My understanding the permit is good for a year. You can park your rv on the lake bed. Just a note the week before nabx the land sailors will be on the lake bed for there event. There is plenty of room so you should not have any problems.

I do not see any problems getting a permit the blm knows what a kite buggy is. A friend of mine just got his. He will be staying on the week after the even.

Oh ideal. Its fine, the lake bed is large enough for 50 events, it would be good to see some land sailing also! So its ok to park my RV on the bed, providing I have the correct permit the week before?

Your welcome. You can park you rv on the lake bed. The blm should send you information on where the road is to drive on the lake bed and where it is ok to park and camp. The lake bed is restricted and there is no driving of vehicles on it. I plan on camping for the event too but in a small pop-up camper. You might consider joining us for the pre-event on other lake beds.

Alex, Dave is right about rain you need to get off the lake bed before it gets wet. When you arrive if the lake bed is wet do not drive on it.

Sorry I did not mention rain/wet conditions before. The blm should have information about rules and regulations, if not you should be able to read them on there site that I posted a few post up.

Great idea using ear plugs Susan, but what about the vibrations? I don't know of any regulations on parking you motorhome in the parking lot other than if they want the area where you are then you move. ALex where are you heading after NABX? How was Corpus or Mustang Island for buggying?

Our permit begins on Sunday the 1st.

You will have all the paperwork you need before you arrive.

An email will be sent to all participants with pdf files of all the rules, regulations, and general knowledge you require to have to much fun with the best of the traction world.

Your helpful staph works overtime to make sure you have a good time.

You DO NOT need a special permit if you come on monday.

Specific questions can also be answered by email from info(at)nabx.net while this forum is a great place to get all kinds of advice, knowledge, and general info on what to do with yer shot car.

Remember, buggy town was not built in a day, and Corey, ain't the mayor for no reason!

One of the things that I would like to mention is that although the lake bed is plenty big, the Land Sailor Association (NALSA) does have a permit to use the lake bed during their event preceding the NABX and the NABX does work closely with NALSA to share the expense of the porta-potties and tent. While it should be ok for us to use (a portion of) the lake bed during the NALSA event, we should use our best behavior and courtesy while out there during their event to make sure we do not interrupt or cause any problems. Please do not pull up into the NALSA camp and start to launch your kite! I highly doubt you will be welcome there. Instead, move away (FAR FAR AWAY) to a remote area that is not near their event and play all you want. In the event that someone does come and mention to you that they have a permit to use the lake bed, please be courteous and let them know that you are aware of that and will make sure that you do not interfere with them in any way. You should be welcome to watch the festivities with the land sailors just don't pull into the middle of their event with your kite and buggy to do it.

Respect for everyone goes a long way, if you plan on arriving early make sure you set a good example for the buggy community by respecting the land sailors right to hold their event without interruptions. We of course would expect the same from them for our event.

Back to the post RV camping on lakebed. What is the general feeling about using a generator to recharge my motorhome? It would maybe run 30 minutes each day.

I had a generator I ran last year. The first night I started it to make dinner and sort of forgot it was running when shut it off I was met with applause it was after dark, dumb on my part. After that I only ran it during the day for about an hour around midday and none seemed to mind because they were bugging and the like. We also ran it to light the tent Friday and Saturday night.
