New Ozone race kites R1

Another high aspect race kite from Ozone coming soon .....

https://vimeo.com/120532021

Quote:

A new generation of ultra high performance foil kite, the R1 coming soon from Ozone…
During the design process of the Chrono2 we made leaps in performance with some wild prototypes that made the testing days a lot of crazy speed filled fun. Out of the prototypes we have managed to develop an out and out race kite that we are calling the R1, a pure performance race kite. This will be for all the racers out there who will want nothing but the fastest kite to ride. Stay tuned for more details to come!

Those extra intakes should help a bit with internal pressure. Offset some of the tip curl it gets when the pressure gets low. Cannot wait to ride it.:D

Love the kite arms race.

Interesting you would think that Feyd. I remember one of the "improvements" on the arcs was reducing from 3 intakes to 2 intakes on the newest models in order to improve internal pressure. I think it has more to do with fewer places to leak air when now powered up. More intakes would help it fill faster, but I think fewer intakes would make it hold tighter pressure once you were fully inflated and in the air carving and flying. Think about how hydraulic hoses are so small compared to the large pistons they pressurize. A larger diameter hose would reduce increase flow rate, but also increase load on the pump. A pump with a smaller pistons is capable of putting out much higher pressure, but at a lower flow rate. In the case of pumping gas into a closed container, you would have more success obtaining and maintaining higher internal pressure with a smaller inlet, even though the flow rate would be slower initially.

TL;DR I think they added more inlets so it can inflate faster for general real world or harsh race conditions. Very light winds would pump the kite extremely slowly. Less intakes would mean an overall higher internal pressure.

At first I was like "What...I thought they weren't making Fixed Bridles any more"....then I realized it was a depowerable. Should be a great addition, but what can I say, I just love FB's!

Quite the battle Ozone and FS are in right now, especially considering FS is about to drop what looks to be(the video is super cryptic) a race tube to go against the Edge.

I'm betting they offer a 19 and or 21m and I'm betting the price will be somewhere between $3300 - 3500. This kite is made for a very narrow audience. I hope the single color, minimally detailed sails go the way of the dodo real soon. For the money you'd think they could at least make it look expensive.

Ha! I know it's all inconsequential to performance, but I must agree. I know a more minimalist look is usually cheaper to make and sometimes even keeps the purchase cost down a bit, but..... I love some striking graphics!

To be honest the new FS FR does look pretty sweet IMO... a little subtly menacing too!

Hopefully the video of the new ozone is just showing a bare prototype.

That there is a death blade!

Chrono2 is coming. And they're doing a more durable version of the R1 too.

When is the AR battle going to end? :D

Good question. I don't know the AR on the FR but the only AR 7 production kites I know of is the F-arc 16 and maybe a Joker. Are there others? Has anyone built a higher AR kite than 7? Maybe something is the fixed bridle history?

How about that hydrofoil board in the video..? :D

"The stand-up design allows the rider to glide with the moving wave. Hydrofoil kiteboards allow the rider to achieve the same result with the use of a kite. The hydrofoil eliminates the effects of choppy or rough conditions. Due to the hydrofoil's underwater characteristics, the rider can angle higher into the wind than on traditional kiteboards which ride on the surface of the water.

As a result of reduced friction, hydrofoils can attain high speeds and lift at lower speeds compared to conventional designs. Foils are used on wind-surfboards through design development from Neil Pryde Maui, inventors of hydrofoil sailing "windsurfing" boards. Using a moderately sized sail, a foil windboard can achieve speeds over 6 knots faster than the apparent wind"

I don't see the problem here. They throw in the shipping after all.:D

Pricing hasn't been finalized yet. Hope to have pricing next week.

It promises to be quite an animal. The Chrono 2 will be a race capable all rounder. (We're calling it a "Freerace") Which I would have been skeptical off at the beginning of the season. But now I've seen what the Chrono can manage and I'm much more confident that it can handle a broader spectrum of conditions than I would have guessed. Looking forward to the R1 but still really happy on Chronos. Flysurfer is doing a good job working the " user friendly" angle. I suspect a lot of riders that found the Chrono difficult to manage will sell them off and switch to Sonics. Especially after the recent successes by riders flying Sonics. I wonder how the F Ones are going to be priced.

Not sure if that's the case with the R1.

We received pricing on the R1 today.

Size KO RTF
R1 6m $1,915 $2,400
R1 7m $2,015 $2,500
R1 8m $2,115 $2,600
R1 9m $2,215 $2,700
R1 10m $2,315 $2,800
R1 11m $2,415 $2,900
R1 13m $2,515 $3,000
R1 15m $2,615 $3,100
R1 17m $2,715 $3,200
R1 19m $2,815 $3,300

I know this isn't the R1/Chrono/Sonic crowd but on the off chance someone is looking for a race oriented light wind monster the R1 will start showing up at the end of the month and availability is going to be tight so we are taking preorders now.

Looking forward to seeing the Chrono and R1 back to back.

Not surprised about the bridle i suppose. As with most things high performance they aren't long on survivability without regular maintenance. :(

But getting it to the point where it needs maintenance will be a hoot!

its tempting , "light duty raceware" kind of turn off but performance has its price

chronos is version 1

Nope. Chrono 2 is relegated to "all rounder/ Freerace" duty. Same as the Chrono 1 but with reinforcements in potential wear areas and a burlier bridle.

The R1 is their new race specific thoroughbred. Higher AR, cleaner form, Kevlar bridles.
