Presque Isle, PA

I've been looking for a great buggy spot since moving here to Jamestown, which is in the SW of NY state. I've had some good rides at the State Park at Long Point on Chautauqua Lake, which is best on a south wind. Wind is from the W to NW, which looks like it should be good for the peninsula at Presque Isle S.P., Just outside Erie, PA. I don't know if anyone has been there, but it is a nice day, so I'm going to load up the mean green machine, and go check it out. I hope to have a good report later today.

Well, I spent several hours at Presque Isle. There were a couple of problems there that will likely keep me from going back there to buggy. The sand is the softest, squishiest I have ever tried to buggy on, right down and into the water. It is much coarser than most beach sand, and doesn't get packed down, like most ocean beaches or even Southwick Beach on L. Ontario. Wind, though predicted to be NW-W was actually coming right up the beach, making it WSW-SW, and was very gusty. I tried several different spots along the peninsula without luck. As Long Point SP on Chautauqua Lake is right on the way home, and usually works with a southish wind, I figured I'd stop there and get some riding in, but there the wind was out of the north, coming over the trees and turbulent. Go figure.

I've heard good things about snow/ice kiting and water kiting there.

Too many kites, boards, and etceteras.

Yeah, while I was towing my buggy back to the car, I walked by a surveyor, who asked about my buggy. When I explained what it was, he told me that they have a summer festival there in Aug.(I think) and they get quite a few people flying big single liners, and some kite boarders, too. It might actually have worked buggying, had I had my bigfoot buggy with me, but I didn't. It's really quite a nice area, though, with camping nearby, and rides/amusements, too.
