Expending energy in calories to produce energy in volts to power a microwave oven to cook a ready meal to replace the calories lost producing the volts. Where do I sign up?

I got the dual line kite winder in his Kickstarter project. It has been useful in learning to kite sail. I'm making progress little by little.

As for his new project - I don't really see why the winder is needed, but I guess he wants to package it with the new thing to sell more of them. It only generate something like 15 watts - barely enough for a small CFL bulb.

There is a lot of brainpower being applied (wasted?) to generating electricity with kites. I figure this is good because maybe they will advance kite technology. Here's a video of another crazy way of doing it. There are some universities and even big companies working on it as well. Hey - a bunch of guys trying to send rockets to the moon, ended up creating some great kites. Who knows?

not sure the application there, the drag of all the stuff certainly reduced the flying efficiency.

did not see any loops, whats with the winder thing?

wouldnt mounting the generatros on a pole be more efficient? then you could go fly the kite while it toasted your bagels

Yeah - mounting a turbine on a tower is the way its normally done. There are huge wind farms, mainly out west. The turbines have wingspans longer than a 747. Wyoming is getting covered with them. In my former life I did a lot of work related to wind generation.

But, the idea (whether it ever works or not) is that wind is stronger, and more consistent at higher altitudes. I think they have a very long way to go to make anything useful out of it, but that doesn't stop them from trying.

As for your bagels - you are probably looking a hundreds of dollars to get a wind turbine that produces enough power to toast them. It would take about 30 of the kite loop generator dudes setups working in tandem to power a toaster.

Strap a generator/motor to one of your kite buggy/board wheels...ride till the wind dies and motor back on the juice you made! Sounds do-able!!

Aren't the Mad Way Mongolia guys doing something like that to power their buggies on the no-wind days?

I'm going to take a nap now
