I would have sold it to the first one willing to pay the asking price. That may or may not have happened yet. I don't know.

Being the first one willing to pay the asking price AND agreeing to the total, including shipping, here is the reply I got from dimension4 after a LOOONG back and forth:

"Hey sounds good. Let me make sure that I am not way off base with my price, I wasn't sure how to price it. Let me think about it over the weekend if I want to list it myself. What would you start the price on ebay for it at?"

Way to earn a good rep on this forum, kid!

I will pass on this one. Moving on.

you start with a modern comparable kite and cut the price in half and that kind of gives a starting point. Then condition and how sought after the kite is comes into play.

You need to be prepared to sell the kite to the first person that is willing to pay the asking price when you list the kite. Price research normally happens before you list an item.

This is going to be a fun thread for the neutral forum user. My opinion...you should have sold it to the first one who send a u2u and was willing to pay for the kite.
Running to Ebay now...not cool.

I dont understand why you ask potential buyers here what the price will do on Ebay.
But im getting a good laugh out of it and your rep is going to be incredible.

Maybe, one day, you will learn: BAIT AND SWITCH DOES NOT WORK and hurts only you at the end.

What's even more uncool, are the barrage of U2Us I received from dimension4... trying to start things.

Well... let this be a warning to everyone.

I'll give you $500 dollars for it..... You'll take it?

Oh, well, then I'll give you $400 for it. Still good for $400?

Hey, I changed my mind, I'll give you $300 for it.

Cool, you'll take $300? But I changed my mind again.... I give you $200 for it.

You don't test the waters by baiting and switching the PKF membership.

I seriously doubt that you'll sell it here now, so you might as well move on to fleaBay.

I asked **** how much he would resell my kite on ebay for to decide if I was comfortable with that and he got real mad at me.

Thanks to you guys who gave honest insight how to price the kite. I don't know what I'm going to do with them now hopefully somebody wants to buy them that will ENJOY them and not be just reselling it.

I'd sell it for what I had the prices listed if you're going to use and enjoy the kite(s). I don't know why I should be trapped into giving them away to be resold though.

Nobody says you should sell to somebody who is low balling you and giving you attitude. I know I wouldn't. We take pride in this being a good forum to trade gear at a fare price with minimum B.S. from Buyers and Sellers.

Still, playing bait and switch is a great way to lose out on support from this forum!

I had a 10m Psycho II and was asked about the kite by one of your potential buyers. I don't mind telling everybody what I told him now.

The Psycho II won me over to Flysurfer's build quality. The kite however had way too complicated a bridle system. I didn't like the safety and paid for a 5th line. It's wind range was pretty limited. It didn't fly all that early and I ended up overpowered on it quick ( and scared at least once ) !
Flysurfer made an incredible leap forward the next year. I loved my 13m Psycho III ! A local used his 13m Pulse as a single kite quiver for a few years. I would not suggest buying anything older than Pulse and Psycho III even at a great price like $175.

When I saw your ad' I thought " this guy knows his Flysurfers " and is asking a good price to unload it fast. Clearly you could have. At MOST I would say you could have asked $225. For $50 dollars you are ruining your reputation.

This site has a good sellers list for a reason!.

Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
Flexifoil: 1.7m Sting, 4.9m Blade 3, 9m Blade 2.

Peter Lynn :18m Phantom, 15m Synergy, 10m Synergy, 1200 Farc, 460 Sarc, 130 Tarc, 5m Peel, 4.2m , 6.4, 8.5 C-Quads, 3.5 LS2 single skin.

Rides: Flexi / P.L. Frankin'Buggy , Shaped + straight skiis, sand skis, Coyote blades. Core 95 ATB. RKB R2 ATB .

Here's my expression of interest:

and the response:

Consider me uninterested.

abkayak

Edit: don't get me wrong... whether or not I was able to buy the kite is immaterial, it's the attitude and change of process from what I consider "the norm" here, that I object to.

Funny, most decent people worry that they may be asking too much. :smug:

You felt like $175 would be OK. It was the right price to draw interest so .... ?

Mood: Get in my buggy!

All I can say is "wow". I'm sitting here at 10p local with a nice rye in hand reading this thread, wife's already in bed. I know I'm still very new to PKF but I've already felt the family vibe here loud and strong and wouldn't do a thing to jeopardize that. I agree completely with the concept of first come, first served when it comes to U2Us and sticking to your asking price (or lower) once you've set your stake in the ground. Serge (who chimed in earlier on this thread) can certainly appreciate that; I sold him several kites and he was great to deal with. I try to think about "fair price" being 33-50% off of retail depending on condition (assuming great to good condition) for used items I sell or buy in such a setting as this. Also, I just listed and resold a PL folding buggy for the same price as I bought it for from Michael Gaylan 4-6 weeks earlier, in large part because he and others would be reading my For Sale post and know pretty much just what I paid for it. Sort of keeps the good karma flowing, and by golly, it's what you do for FAMILY.

I'm the first to admit that our sport/hobby/obsession belongs on ESPN8, "The Ocho" and I'm just fine with that. This is a large and diverse group to be sure, but I bet (like me, and from his username 1oldkid) a lot of us are big kids at heart that still just love to fly kites. I for one vote to keep the For Sale aspect of this site sort of a break even proposition; treat your kites and related stuff with love and respect while they are yours and pass them along at a fair price when you want to unload and restock your quiver. My favorite kite so far in my entire life (my FS 12M P2) was bought here and I loved it and the relationship I formed with the seller (Chris from Hardwater). Keep the good juices flowing!!! :cool2:
