Washington State buggy/boarding locations?

Where are good locations for a buggy or a board in Washington? Anybody kite here or does everybody travel to Oregon?

Looking for weekend destinations.

Thanks

Ok, so I take it there isn't any great, good, or marginal buggy places in Washington other then soccer fields and etc.
Another question, what is the parks and recreation ruling on buggies on the beach? I have read that wind land/sailors are excluded except during special permit times. Does this include kite buggies? Then I have also read that parks and rec was changing the ruling to open between April and Labor Day in selected areas. . When motor vehicles aren't allowed. Does anyone know the rules? Again through my research I have heard of folks bugging in and above Ocean Shores, Westport, and Long Beach. Is this not allowed anymore?
Thanks for any clarification that I can get.

Dunno, I've been looking for people over the boarder for a while now, most seem to be in oregon or down further. There's a huge crowd of surf nuts thought.

If you're ever up in BC, give us a shout, there's a growing crowd of us here, Also if you find a nice open location down there, we just may be persuaded to make a weekend trip out of it.

fletcht,
I live in Mukilteo and have been considering getting into a buggy but would really like to learn from someone, or with someone. I am a bit intimidated by these things and really dont want to start out alone. Would be nice to find someone willing to give lessons. I have flown sport/stunt kites for years, never a 4 line kite, but I think I will pick it up quickly.
As for where to go, I have seen buggies, boards, etc... down on Pacific Beach, etc... Ocean Shores, Copalis and north of there. Not many, but I have seen them while flying my kites out there. That beach is 14 miles long from Ocean Shores to Conner Creek, and last I heard, it is the only beach landing strip for aircraft in the US. It is legal to drive on the beach, speed limit is 25 mph, must be street legal, must stay out of the clam beds, of course. So, I cant imagine that we couldn't buggy down there. There are 2 kite shops in Ocean Shores that should have info. Try Cutting Edge Kites 360.289.0667 and Ocean Shores Kites at 289.4103.
And please, keep me informed as to what you find out. I would really like to join in this buggy fun, just need to find others willing to teach or learn with me.

If you are near Seattle you want to try Jake at WindFlowSports. com ( I think ). He does everything with a wing. A good guy to know.
If you are near Belingham try Andy of Belinghamkiteboarding. Andy is on Skypilotkiteboarding.com if you can't find his site. If you are in northern Washington jump the boarder some day and catch up the Vancouver gang. Usually something going on around here. We post at skypilot.

Thank you for the contacts and advice, snowbird. I see you have a flexi buggy, is that a flexifoil? Are they a good buggy? Found one lightly used for $400 on line.
I have done a little research this morning on places to buggy. Cant find one. Ocean Shores area, they are illegal on the beach. The beach is patroled by city police, state police and parks department, I have been told that they all pass the buck when you pursue a law change and you go in circles until you give up. But, if people are interested, as I am, we could form a group to give our voice some volume. Andy at Ocean Shores Kites will help however he can. I have contacted a group called Westport Windriders for advice. I was also told that the indian reservation north of Copalis used to provide permits to ride on their beach, but that program was discontinued. I will contact them shortly, maybe they will allow it if more of us ask, again, maybe we need to form a group to press the issue. I think its Quinault land. Other than that, I hear these buggies are illegal at the beach in Westport and Long Beach, but may still be legal at Rockaway Beach, but I dont know where that is.

If you figure this out let us know, there's a group of us up here that wouldn't mind traveling for a couple hours to hit an awesome beach.

My Buggy is a used old version of Flexi. I'm told it's a Peter Lynn design. The one with the canted back wheels. It's amazingly light, I just unbolt the downpost and it fits in my back seat. Good for a little guy like me but I don't think you would want to be 200lbs and jumping it. It's my 1st buggy. The Skypilot crew picked it up at SOBB for me last year for only $250 U.S. AND IT HAS CHANGED MY LIFE !!!!!

Sounds like you are just going to have to settle for driving up to Vancouver. Our 2 top spots, Gary Point and Mud Bay are both only about 10 or 15 minutes from the boarder.
You won't actually need a Skidoo for another mile or 2
:wink2: For your trouble you'll find a good crew !

DrewP, I would like to get together sometime. Lesson? Not from me I am still trying to figure this stuff out. had some good pointers from Sunset Jim a local at at Sunset beach in Oregon.
As far as buggy riding in Washington. I received a permit from the ranger at Twin Harbors State Park to Buggy at Wash a way beach south of Grayland. No charge and the permit is good for the calendar year. According to him I good get a similar permit from the ranger at Ocean City and Cape Disapoinntment. I tried cape Disapointment and was told that it was illigal. Since the beach is a state highway all vehicles need to be highway legal. I woiuld be glas to enter into what ever I can for letter writing etc to open up some areas in Washington. After flying at Sunset there is no reason why all vehicles can't cooperate.

Tom,
Looking forward to meeting you. Ocean City, just north of Ocean Shores, near Copalis, I will try to contact them, great beach but I have heard we cant ride there. Also heard that aircraft landing on the beach is now illegal. Do check your U2U inbox, I sent you my contact info. Pablo and Snowbird are willing to come down if we can figure out a good location. Hope your first buggy experience was a good one.

Actually we can probably put together the dirtier half of a dozen for a rode trip. We have at least that many riding buggy regularly + more on KGB.

I know we will have a group going to Seaside for the SOBB warm-up. 5 or 6 are hitting NABX but I'll have to pass.
