By the time you buy and make a buggy I wonder if it would cost you more than if you bought a good second hand one. Just a thought.

That is the question I am considering. Though I work in a machine and weld shop. I also have access to materials and a 3000 watt laser (I do the
programming) The only thing I would be out would be tires, wheels, seats, and bearings. The time commitment would be issue. I have two small kids.
That equals no time. But I do love projects.

Just my 2 cents - I say buy one first and roll...
Then, if you think you have a better design, build a new frame and use all the parts you have.

Seat, wheels and rubber will set you back close to $150-200 right off the top. Assuming you can get the metal for free/cheap you may be able to put
somethign together for cheap, If you're looking for something special like Popeyes stuff then you're way ahead to homebuild, but if you want a
standard buggy, you'll be hard pressed to beat some of the used ones going around, I believe a Libra just went for $400 on the buy sell.

I built my first one out of PVC and do not recommend it. I put over $250 into it and only buggied with it 2 times. After that I bought a 2nd hand PL
Comp for a steal and had it for 4 years..... By all means, satisfy the "Project Urge" but just keep in mind you might not "SAVE" money by doing it
that way...

my advice is if you are thinking of making a buggy to save costs, forget it
buy a decent secondhand buggy....works out far far cheaper
building you own buggyis is not the cheap option believe me I should know...
