17m Flysurfer Speed Silverarrow (Silberpfeil)

I got to fly it for the first time yesterday

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/DaVinch/speed_silver.jpg

Even though it was 8 degrees F out, I just had to try it.

First thing you notice when unpacking this kite is the ultra light weight material (Skytex 27). When packed up, it looks like the same size as my old 8.5m Blade III.

When stretched out, she measures 32 feet long.

The winds were 5 to 6mph.

The kite easily inflated and with a gentle tug on the center lines, she was off. The white/silverish translucent color is just stunning in the air. The power was very impressive for such low winds - this kite will be perfect for those calm summer days. The turning rate was slow, but faster than I thought it would be for a 17m foil.

My overall Flysurfer experience is really positive so far since moving from fixed bridled Blades & Begos.

The quality is top notch and only downside I've found so far is the extensive bridle system.

Careless packing = big bunch of line salad to untangle.

Packing up is pretty simple once you open the two zippers on the leading edge. Just fold and roll.

I'll get some pictures the next time I'm out.

Joe

awesome :)
it was the speed 1 right? I think the new speed 2 comes as silver arrow in 19m! :wow:

I love my speed to death it's amazing, my only complaint is the turning speed.

I'm getting a 10m flysurfer psycho III to compliment it, think i'm going to give up peter lynn and become a full on flysurfer boy :spin:

Yup, it is the Speed 1 version. I had it out again today in 8 - 10 mph winds - very nice

I've heard great things about the 10m P3. How does it compare to the 10m Speed 2?

Sweet kite Da V! Now all you need is the 200! Kites came in today! Very nice and will send pics tomorrow! 32 feet long, you realize a F15 wingspan is only 67 feet. I believe the F5 is only 42 feet--thats freakin huge. Must be an awesome adrenaline rush!!! As usual.........stoaked:thumbup::yes:

Oh almost forgot, caught a dust devil gust and updraft today at the state fair grounds. Saw the dust devil bookin my way from the dirt parking lot. Anyway, popped a pendilum jump as it passed where I was flying and caught HUGE air with a nice landing--two pointed that SOB and was my heart pumping. Id estimate at least 12 to 15 feet. It was a freakin rush!!! It was on the Bego 600 of course!

Hey B-Roc,

The kite really seems huge at first, but once in the air it feels so "light".

The power delivery is so smooth...

I just need either more snow here or it needs to melt so I can use my mountainboard or buggy. We only have about 2" of snow on the ground and my snowboard was digging into the dirt during the last session

I hate that in-between time when there isn't enough snow for your board / skis but too much for the buggy / ATB

What safety system are you using? It's not the normal speed 1 backstall system?

Domdino,

It's been upgraded to the fifth line FDS - works very well.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FULL DEPOWER SAFETYLINE ( FDS ) - we have been able to integrate an additional system for your safety. When using this system it is possible to fly the PULSE with an 5 th line, enabling you to react to drastically changing weather conditions and to stay in complete control. In an emergency situation, just deploy the FDS and set the kite to almost zero power whilst maintaining the possibility to relaunch the kite.

ahh yeah i was wondering about that FDS system. Would you rate it well then? I kind of like the back stalling system (although it's useless if the wind gets too strong) are you able to still use this method to land the kite as it makes it so effortless?

I'm curious about the FDS ? Is it possible to fit my Phsyco 2 with 5th line ? Would I need to buy an upgrade kit or could I make one myself ? ( I have a spare safety leash and line ) Exactly how does it depower ?

SWEeeet kite by the way ! I often wonder why Flysurfer doesn't get more respect. Never have I seen better quality from the Backpack to the lines, all a+ materials and craftsmanship !! Amphibias to boot!!! Ozone needed a bladder to make a usable water kite !?

you can get the upgrade kit on flysurfers website, i think maybe you need to add bridles though? ummm, here it is: http://www.flysurfer.com/Shop/pop_up/?Bild_gross=112_gr_245....

It's designed for speeds though so dunno if it'd fit on a psycho II? Humm

No woodneers - but I play it pretty safe.

I haven’t found the top end for me on snow yet. I'm guessing around 15mph and I'll have all the power I ever wanted.

We just got another 4" of snow last night, so I'm ready to get some speed runs (skis on lake) in this weekend!

As for the fifth line safety system - I have used it on the Pulse a few times in big winds.

It just folds in half and drops to the ground.

In high winds, I usually bring it to the side of the window close to the ground and just let go of the bar (chicken loop undone) and the kite goes to the fifth line with very little pull. I then attach the safety line to my skis or snowboard and walk to the kite to set it up again or pack up.

In light winds, I just pull the brake lines to land it on its trailing edge.

I have the Phsyco 2 out for an FDS upgrade. I've been a bit shy of it's lift on land and hope with the FDS I'll use it a lot more.
Let us know how the Phsyco 3 works for you ! + what wind ranges you find. I've been to chicken to find the top but it has a definate bottom end of about 9mph.

Pab's ,
You are more than welcome to drag the P2 out to the spit.
It may well keep you going when the wind is too much for the Scorp.. The 12m F-arc is yours to use as well. You could hold on to the F-arc if you need a smaller ( older ) one. I almost never use it. If you are heading out you can swing by my place and pick them up. It's a bit of a detour to Lions Gate bridge but not too much.

Thanks for the offer, with my gut I can hold down the Scorpion till about 30mph, should be ok for big air at Squamish, land riding I tune it down a hare. If anything I'm more curious as to how the P2 will perform and help you get out on it. I've heard good things about them and it'd probably make a wicked all around kite for you.
