Kids, start them young, but what kite

Hi guys n girls.

My son is 8 years young and I want to see if he likes kiting. Well i think he likes kiting. He totally loves it to stand on my kite ground board and ride along.

But you know...kids are kids and the next day they like something else. I do have to say that anything on wheels or in the water that he can ride he likes.
Longboarding, skateboarding, scooter, boogieboarding and surfing. He loves it.

To keep a lobg story short...
I was thinking of getting hom a peter lynn Hype. Cheap enough to take a chance on it. He is a lightweight 8 year old. So what size. Average wind here is about 10-15 knots or so.
Sometimes more, sometimes less. I powerkite just over 10 years or so. So i will keep an eye out during the learning process and teach him all I know.

Hype sizes
1.6
1.9
2.3

Hype is considered a trainerkitr for family fun. Comes with bar and all that.

So any advise here. I dont want to ruin it by handing out a kite that does not work well for his age and makes him loose interest.

Would the hype be a good choice?
What size is recommended?

Thanks all.

Hey..if it all works out my 5 year old might do the same. He is doing all the boardrides my oldest does.
Hahaha..he is going to be the muscular guy of the 2 though.

Cross kites boarder comes in similar sizes and is a little less expensive. Never flown either but expect they would be similar. Nasa stars are reasonably priced and very easy to learn on a bar.

You could also consider 1 kite like the hype, then something like a 2 or 3m hornet for them to grow into 4 line mode which would be more fun and usable once they have the basics down.

Stunt kites are a fun way to learn the wind window and basics as well

My son started when he was 9, using a Rush Pro. 6 years later, I still use the kite to put into newbies hands.
Whatever you get, make sure it's 3 or 4 line so that once he knows how to re-launch, you don't have to spend your whole day standing downwind.

Go ahead... tell me to "go fly a kite!" Please!

Howard - used to be KC67
Fly: A quiver of Lynx' and Cores (did someone say "Pansh"?), a couple o' Arcs, and a Rev to remind me about control
Ride: PL XR+

Thanks guys.
The 3 line for restart is a good idea.
Standing downwind getting a tan is only fun for a little while.

We actually have been landboarding on the streets with a sleddy. He does like these things.

Less walkinf for the old guy is good tho.
