Online Kiting Resources and NAKPA Website

As I've decided to finally move forward with something I've been considering, and want to try and give back/get involved with NAPKA some, I want to get some feedback/opinions from members here (regardless of NAPKA membership), and see what people want/think is missing.

NAPKA Website
  1. What do you like about the current website?
  2. What do you not like about the current website?
  3. What features or additions would you like to see?

Other Resources
  • What do you often use online for kiting (outside the forums)?
  • What do you wish you had to use online and is not available?
  • How do you deal with info you love and may lost from links becoming dead, or sites disappearing?

My Own Thoughts and Opinions
I'm going to go ahead and include these here, to help give people a starting point for possibilities, and provide some possible ideas, so that it might spark ideas for others.
  • Profiles: It'd be nice to have a more fully fleshed out profile, with the ability to link to your other profiles on forums, edit what personal information is shown, include fuller information you might want to have about your kiting
  • Wiki: It'd be nice to have the resources buried across the many forums more centrally located (and backed up). Think of all the sites we've lost/businesses that closed, who had awesome info pages, that we have very hard/limited access to (ie internetarchive backup). I think a wiki would be among the best way to do this. I'd remove the restriction on some opinions/writing style, as to make it more useful. An easy example is there's about 5 different ways to wrap up line on/from/with handles. Unless you've seen someone use one of them or you search the forums (and some of these are still hard to find), you'd never know. The other part of this I'd like to implement is kite specific info pages. On newer kites, I/it could be setup to auto pull listings from manufacturer pages, to at least generate year released, AR, sizes produced in, color schemes, etc... Then people could add/edit if they know of mods for the kite (Bridle, Sewing (see old arcs), Peak/Peak2 tip tuck fixes, etc... Reference section on articles would link back to sources (or forum threads). If a wiki was setup and did exist, would you use it? Would you help edit/add to it?
  • Map: Auto-generate from locations listed in wiki (or a database). Make it if you click a spot you get the forecast, (maybe fliers who have it listed in their profile), etc... Plenty of these exist for kitesurfing, but not so much for land based activites.
  • Event Pages directly integrated for easy info/registration

Note: I cleared posting this with Morrie Williams (the current website manager), so don't want anyone to think I'm intentionally or otherwise stepping on toes. Whether or not any of this gets changed or happens depends a lot on what people state wanting or their opinion

Liking the ideas you have and the desire to help.

I'm in no way a computer guru, making a simple navigation, information area with a search engine would be awesome to have within the NAPKA website.
