headlight restoration

hadn't done this before, but my daughter and I restored the headlights on her car tonight. I bought a kit at autozone. Requires some sanding, buffing wiht drill and so forth but only took 20 minutes and turned out pretty good. kit cost $30

Worked like a charm on my old PT Cruiser.

About a year or more later it was time to think about doing it again but the treatment worked well.

I've seen guys on youtube put a uv resistant aerosol clear coat on after they do the job and supposedly is permanent. might try that if/when I redo them

Polishes for plastic can restore many items besides head lamp covers. Bought a 1916 railroad grade pocket watch that appeared to have a poor dial. Ten minutes of careful polishing of the plastic crystal made a vast improvement as the problem was the finely scratched crystal & not the face of the watch. Of course a proper glass crystal would be more correct. The scales of a red Swiss Army Knife can be made to look great also. But I have learned much more from competing in car shows. Find the best polishing products. They are worth it. SHBKF

I used the harbor freight kit and it worked well. Washing the inside of the windshield also helped to see at night.

Pledge Future kitchen floor polish also works for similar applications filling in clear plastic scratches. Its been renamed Johnson Pledge floor care. Plastic scale modelers use it for restoring clear plastic parts.
