New Peter Lynn buggy


with the PL team reworking the buggy line up and production (now made in Europe) the first new intro/general use buggy info is up on the web site.

Cool to see that PL remains in the buggy market. Nice to see too that they now curved the side rails, presumably making the seat more one you are "in" versus "on".

A question for the metallurgists out there. Is galvanized powder coated steel and galvanized steel hardware an upgrade, downgrade, or sort of a push compared to their prior use of stainless steel?

i'm no expert, but this new buggy looks like the welds are a hell of a lot better than the stainless. Would be a upgrade in my book, especially if your not by salt water like me. I can tell I'd still have to add a back rest, but that's no big deal. just by looks, I would guess it's much stronger tougher buggy. :thumbup:

Why did they use a 12mm bolt in a 20mm bearing on the front wheel. What takes up the extra space?

The wheels only come in 20mm now. There is a spacer on each side to make the parts match.

Back in the day; did PL make the early Flexifoil buggies? I really wonder if Libre is making these. Good to see it has the better wheels on it.

I really love the look of the front forks. They finally did away with the flimsy crap that causes all the bending and cracked welds. My welds are full of cracks on my Comp XR+ fork. The seat still looks too shallow though.

I agree. Regarding the seat, I'm not sure why they didn't redesign the side rails to come up higher near the back so the seat webbing would actually support the back of the seat. Looks like the same shape of side rails as xr.

Yeah...Why not just use a stronger 20 mm bolt that matches
the 20mm bearing? So PL can Save a few dollars and little bit of weight...?

Ever seen a bent 12 mm axle bolt in front wheel? My used bigfoot I bought had bent front axle bolt(re-bent it back!!).... but have a spare now if it bends again.

Perhaps you could just buy your own 20mm( x 140) bolt to replace the 12mm and eliminate the spacers...?

Exactly my thought. Buggies are already really heavy in the greater scheme of things, so adding some ounces with a big bolt isn't going to do anything major to the heft of the thing.

The one stray thought I had was fore/aft balance for jumping, but I really doubt that's it.

Flexifoil buggies still might be the better buggy over PL...even with improvements of the Rally model..?

I have both basic older models. The old flexi definitely tougher and better made than old PL's.





....Still think this is a good buy for the money..inclusive of the big shipping charge from overseas- if you can spend more $:

I think the overall length of the front axle bolt probably plays a part in why they use 12mm vs 20mm... Consider how much a 12mm front axle costs and the extrapolate the cost of a 20mm bolt... It may also have to do with availability... Just thinking out loud.

Looks way cooler than the XR, IMO

If they are using a corrosion-resistant higher quality bolt...ummm..perhaps...but I don't know what quality is used. .

I think cost can vary big time based on exact metal, composition/quality, and if buying it directly from supplier vs mark up of store selling it. Not sure what kind of steel bolt PL is using. They tend to go cheap....

My 12mm spare front axle bolt(not stainless or galvanized) was only about $8. So....I think a 20mm of same steel comp' from my same source would also be fairly cheap. I did see a 12mm front axle bolt offered once at another source that sells kites and buggy parts for about $45 ..... though it was galvanized, I believe.


If I ever use mine I will grease it up good with an anti- corrosive.

I think Frankin'buggy started life as a Flexifoil built by Peter Lynn?

I bought these adaptors from AWOC to reduce from 20 down to 12s.http://www.awindofchange.com/product/20mmwheeladaptors.html Easy Peasy! :thumbup:

I agree, the thing I liked least about the comp was the lack of back rest. The Rally doesn't look like it's any more comfortable??? :puzzled:

The front axle bolt on my XR is stainless... The replacements I've seen were expensive... For a bolt... Anyway, it was just a thought.

After struggling for years with the Chinese to keep the quality on par with what we wanted and being tired of being called Peter Thin we thought it was time for a complete overhaul of the buggy range.
The Rally is the first of 4 models coming, there will be a stainless version of the Rally, and a Bigfoot in two versions.
The small ST and the Folding, well, may they rest in peace.

Nuts and Bolts have always been galvanized, so no change there.

The seat is a bit lower due to the slight change in the siderails, but no, its still no sofa..

All frontforks are 'nailbiters' Ken :D.

me too. I ride rough ground and weigh in at 240. so far so good.
