I am 185 Lbs. and fly a Flexifoil Rage Sport 3.5m in Oakland, TN where average wind speeds are 19 mph. Most days wind is 10-12 mph and the Rage doesn't have enough pull for my liking. I am looking for something that will give me a better workout and fly on 5-8 mph days in the summer. Would this kite be a good fit?

While I have no experience on this particular kite, I have had high ar kites this size. 5-8 would be perfect to get a good workout. You just have to be mindful that your flying a lifty kite and try to avoid gusty conditions. 5-8 range you would most likely be scudding as well. It doesn't take a whole lot with kites this size and type to generate some good power. Just my 2 cents.

If you are only experienced with the 3.5, a 5m is your next logical step. You will be wide eyed when you feel the power increase. IMO, stepping straight to the 8 is not your optimal learning path. You could fly the 8 in the right winds but you'll progress faster with skills you would learn with a 5. Nothing wrong with picking up a good deal like this and hang on to it for after you get more experienced or just want to try it on a light wind day.

BeamerBob I agree and was thinking the deal was too good to pass on to help jump start my quiver. As I said I weigh between 180 and 190 depending on diet and without any gear on. The 3.5 seems to barely budge me in winds around 12 to 15 mph so I am looking for something to give me more of a workout plus me on a kiteboard too in the future. Our winds dont get that strong unless its storming here in the Delta of memphis so I need kites that will do well in low winds(under 10mph).

I dont mind looking elsewhere if Sand Flea doesn't feel comfortable selling I respect ethics and take no offense. I am 46 year old motorcyclist, bullrider, and bouncer, that has survived by keeping my ego in check.

abkayak the kite, line, and handles are a great deal thats why I inquired.

Not sure who is going to kick my ass for free I guess the kite? Is that why you say I should delineate whether to release the kite from its bag?

As for flying a lead filled snowshoe the winds would have to be blowing at a ridiculous speed. Taking a popular snowshoe as an example Model Atlas Elektra 1227 the outer tubing is 54 inches and 1 inch in diameter. Filling the tube with lead would put the weight of the shoe at around 18 Lbs. with a surface area of 216 sg inches. Wind speed would have to be near 80 mph plus to give any real lift to the shoe so I do not think comparing the Pansch 8m to a lead filled snowshoe is an accurate metaphor. Regardless I would never fly any kite in such conditions even with the blessing of St. Alphonso.

I would like to purchase said items fully realizing inherent risks assumed with the purchase and use of aforementioned equipment. I appreciate that the 8m is 5 times the area of my 3.5 kite and will generate much more power if flown in the same conditions that the 3.5m flies in now. I dont want to fly it in the same wind though as I mentioned I want it for lower winds under 10mph.

I am being really sarcastic by the way...so please don't murder me. If you see a good deal on a 5m let me know because I want one of those too!

Sand flea, donate the kite at SOBB for the bonfire.
On the other hand, I'll put 20 bucks on the new owner getting hurt within 2 weeks.
I have a yellow with blue 5m Ace I converted to a motorcycle cover, only wish it was a bit more water proof. :D

pancakes 1st...
kites shouldn't be burnt way to toxic a situation...flags i get but not kites
bigkid normally would make easy money here but i think you should buy it for either parts and that one day awhile from now..1st 10 times out w/ this kite the wind shouldnt be blowing over 5mph for 2 more days..respect the balls off of this kite
this is a supercharged Vmax w/ bald tires and a mean streak...so you dont take it out when the roads are slick
you totally arent ready for it and i dont know may never be??..no offense
so...i spelled this out proper, think about it, fly the heck outa your 3..get a 5m, take correct steps dont get yourself hurt
and you could always re purpose the kite or put it up some day every once in a while

Moving on to look for other great deals have not heard from owner and can presume he doesnt want to take part in the gambling going on...sorry no bets today bigkid but I am sure you can find some other sucker to bet on.

I like the VMax analogy (currently debating buying one) and would have treated the kite accordingly knowing that its a large engine and the wind is the throttle, by the way 36 years of riding and no tickets here...

Hope someone gets the kite and it doesnt get burned seems a waste. I will pay the postage for the handles and lines if you do decide to burn.

Don't burn it. My 5m and 7m Ace can be a lot of fun, we just rarely get the right winds for them here (someone on a shore would probably be in heaven). Too gusty to pull them out most the time, but I do love a session, especially on the snow when I can pull out the 5 or 7m. Not a kite for a begginer, or someone inland (gusts and these things are like an OBE machine). I have no need for a 7m and 8m or I'd try to save it from the fire (though I am preferential to Ace II graphics)

lol bigkid.

sand flea,
sorry for the thread veer.
you're obviously looking to sell the kite to someone that can handle it, and will give it a good home. best of luck with the sail sale.

What hiaguy said. Clean winds are needed to make this kite a bit easier to fly. With a little AOA adjusting the Ace would be a great kite for most anyone. I have done some work on the AOA of the 10m ace to make it more gentle but it's still a big kite with a wild hair.
I would be willing to help the new owner rework the AOA if it would help sell the kite. It's not rocket science changing the AOA, just a bit knowledge is all that needed. I know all of the West Coast flyers have it. and a few East Coasters....
