New guy to here and kiting

Hey everyone! Im new to the forums and pretty much new to traction kiting. I had a 2.5 for a while and got the bug. I just bought a 5m Hornet about 2 hours ago. Ive flown kites for a few months now and Im pretty comfy with the controls. Im in SoCal and I am wondering if any of you guys here are from SoCal too and where do you like to powerkite? Large parks and open expanses are hard to come by in my area (LA).

Playa del Ray looks interesting, what would happen if you rolled the dodger stadium parking Lot with a nasa wing? Old airfields are cool for land boarding. There's always the beach...

Welcome,

There are a few folks on here from the L.A. area. I suggest you start another thread titled Kiters in L.A. or something like that. Not everybody checks out the intro threads.

Probably the best advice I can offer is to try and get to Ivanpah dry lake for the IBX gathering in a bit less than 2 months.

It is only a few hours drive from L.A.. Rooms are dirt cheap and the lessons learned are priceless. You will get to see every type and size of kite. The difference between the different kite buggies. Other ways of riding like boards and blades.

People at the event are super friendly and keen to talk about their gear and the sport. DON'T be shy and you will get to meet all sorts of great people passionate about the sport. Many will let you try their stuff and most will be happy to give advice. Be forewarned though, if the wind picks up it all changes. People will only care about getting out for a while.

Be prepared for a LOT more powerful and slower flying kite moving up to 5m. You won't be able to hold it down in near as high of winds as the 2.5m

Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
Flexifoil: 1.7m Sting, 4.9m Blade 3, 9m Blade 2.
Flysurfer : 19m Speed 2 SA, 7m Pulse
Peter Lynn :18m Phantom, 15m Synergy, 10m Synergy, 1200 Farc, 460 Sarc, 130 Tarc, 5m Peel, 4.2m , 6.4, 8.5 C-Quads, 3.5 LS2 single skin.

Rides: Flexi / P.L. Frankin'Buggy , Shaped + straight skiis, sand skis, Coyote blades. Core 95 ATB. RKB R2 ATB .
