Damn, I'd been wondering if that was possible. This winter we've been getting a lot of marginal days where it seems there's too much ice for getting
in the water, but it's to thin to ride on top of.

It looks to me like they are dealing with a lake that froze then they had lots rain. Then freezing conditions again. Trapping a layer of water on top
of the original ice layer.
This has happened a few times around here. I always considered the lake un-rideable at that point but .....
