Mean green stolen!

I spent last week setting up my STD buggy (mean green) for the ice, with knobby tires and sheet metal screw studs. I went to Mayville, at the North end of the lake but the ice was not good, so I came home, storing the buggy where it has been since I moved here, but I forgot to chain it down. I got up this morning, and it was gone. If anyone in Western NY sees a Comp STD (Peter Lynn) for sale, please email me or u2u.

Sorry to hear that. I've had 2 windsurf boards stolen over the years so I know how you feel. Never recovered either one. You should contact the police to report it, though it probably won't do you much good. Hard to see why someone would steal a kite buggy since there is not much of a market in most places and if there are several riders they probably all know each other and their gear. Probably didn't know what it was.

(Amateur detective hour - take with a grain of salt) You might check Craig's List or the like to see if anyone has it listed (a friend on mine got his laptop back that way). Or perhaps whoever stole it may have just wanted the metal. You might check local metal recycling places see if anyone has brought in anything that sounds like it. Good luck.

Thanks, guys. Good advice, I have already done all. The cop taking my report kind of chuckled when I said kite buggy, but was interested when I told him what it is for. This town is quite hilly, and I'm hoping they weren't thinking drift cycle, or they might get hurt. I was also thinking scrap for the stainless steel, so I have checked with the local yard as well. My bad for thinking people don't suck.

That's crappy - man it would nice to catch who ever ripped it off.
if it was kids wandering around and grabbed it , there's a chance it may not be too far away. If you see any neighborhood kids that you can be-friend and ask them to keep an eye out and maybe even offer a small reward the kids just might see it around.

Really hope mean green turns back up in one piece. Is there anything that people won't take? I'm with the others thinking it was likely taking for the metal and will hopefully turn back up.

Sorry for your loss. probably some kids using it on hills. Check the snow banks for high speed entries.

Another possibility is someone thats a power para glider(PPG) using a backpack motor that wants to convert over to a trike.

This seems to be a popular conversion. I've seen Flexi's and PL's used with some modifications but any buggy will work.

Check out your local airfields. Those guys usually buddy up in a small hanger. I've seen as many as 6 men using the same hanger.

It will probably be found as another color. Good Luck!

Well kudos to the police man who spotted your buggy. It's nice to see that some are actually looking instead of driving down the road talking on their cell phones.......
As for the kid who was riding the 10 speed and the one in the buggy, I think I would ask them very politely with a big stick, to remove the blue paint and put the buggy back to way it was.
Good to see that the use of United States hasn't disappointed me with their stupidity and genetically parent enhanced brain damage.

Imagine how much it cheered me up! The officer told me that after questioning the boys, he believed that they had bought the item from someone in a "shady area". I guess the ironic part was both back tires had gone flat, due to the screws I had put in to ride on the ice, which never happened. When I put the screws in, they did not extend through the tread, but evidently, riding on the street, and possibly drifting the rear end put enough stress on the tires to let the tips of the screws to pop through, puncturing the tubes! If I had been able to take it out on the ice, I probably would have popped them myself, giving me a long walk of shame!
Oh yeah, they replaced the flat back tires and wheels with wheel chair wheels, and were riding down the street like that!

I doubt the part where they said they purchased from someone in a shady area. That sounds like a convenient excuse for them stealing it. as long as the frame was undamaged, that's still great you got it back regardless of the rest.

Are you talking about the large rear wheels of a wheel chair?

Yes on the large rear wheels, only they are ancient ones, with metal spokes like a bicycle tire, but solid rubber tires. It must have rode like a dragster, the back axle sits a good 6" higher than the front. They also took off the home made back rest I had on it, then decided it needed one after all, and attached the top half of an old wooden chair they broke, with rope and my old strapping. I suppose they could have been lying to the police, but the officer tended to believe them, and that was good enough for me. I did get the original wheels and tires as well, so I'm just out the padding, and the green, but it give me a reason to redecorate!

No way they just bought it... innocently . The Cop should go home and watch more detective TV shows..

Did Officer say where kids lived?

No way kids paid(had money) for a buggy..... which they did not know what use it was for...from someone they didn't know.... from a shady area( what area?) ...that they just happened to be in... from someone who just happened to be the real thief... and...

THEY stole it.

Regardless...glad you got it back though.
