I live in a town that still has active farms and a number of acres dedicated simply to making hay. The fields are ideal for riding or kite skiing but
they are private property so if the farmer says "stay out" you better. No need to create ill will for the sport or a headache for the farmer who has
every right to be concerned about liability if you get hurt on his land. But keep asking, maybe you'll find a farmer who is OK with it.
As far as clubs go, I have no experience with that but it may include a need to get insurance and blah, blah, blah so that may or may not be the way
to go.
I know there are other kiters from KS but its a big state and I don't know where they are located or what forums I've seen them on.
Public fields may be your best bet. I often board on a college leaque baseball field and stay in the outfield so as not to leave tracks in the clay
of the infield. Its small but its good enough if its all you have. Soccer fields are big enough too if the nets aren't in the way. Bigger is better
but you've got to make do with what you have.
I often go in the off hours to avoid other people and dog walkers on the field. Early morning, middle of the week at lunch time and end of the day
seem to have less organized field use.
