PL Vapor 16.1m SOLD!

I am selling my 16.1m Peter Lynn Vapor. I picked it up used off of PKF. Since I've had it it's been in the air twice. Both times at the beach. She is beautiful! Comes with PL handles and lines. I'd like to get $700 but am open to reasonable offers.

I have decided...no...wait...I have fallen in love with ARC's and the wife says I've already spent enough of her money. So I gotta sell somethings if I want to get a new one. I'll try to post some pics of this beauty.

No sir. I have flown it twice since buying it. The first time was 6mph (I was not prepared!) for how hard this thing pulled in 6mph. The second was 4mph. I'm 300#!! This thing dragged me down the beach like a freight train!

How does this kite compare to the 15.4m Combat?
Is this a beginner kite? Clean winds or lumpy?

Some of us fly big as well as small kites, when I say big and small I mean .8m to 16m fix bridle.
I had to ask about the beginner or not kite.
The larger the kite the smoother the wind needed. I have flown all across the US and this size of a kite is not going to see much air time if you fly from the Rockies East.
I used my 12.5m on the east coast as my go to kite most of the time but that was only with onshore winds, off shore or side-on was out of the question.

I can only imagine the smooth low winds this needs. I've had 2 mid and high aspect 8 and 8.5 fixed bridle and I didn't have smooth enough winds to use as an engine at those sizes. Static is a different story. I like flying all sizes fixed bridle static. I was able to fly a 360 with the 8m toxic. I had to do a fair amount of running but it was still cool :D

If I had the expendable dough, I'd snatch this up for some almost no wind static fun and to satisfy curiosity.

My 14m Yak GT is ok up to 9-10 mph winds. I think my lines are about 35m. The range on this 16 must be close to half that and probably only gains a half mph on the bottom end. I'd like to run beside this 16 and the 15.4 Combat to see how they all stack up.

I have this kite and it is an absolute beast!

One of my funnest sessions to date was with this kite. It was late afternoon and the sun was setting. I did not feel any wind on the ground or notice any leaves in the trees moving. I was able to launch in a bug fart and then once moving I was able to keep going.

I think I must have done about 50 tacks before it finally got too dark to kite. During that whole time, I kept thinking, I can't believe I'm still going...

Sadly though, it just doesn't get used that much.

I have buggyed with my 12.5 in 20mph winds. Your thinking makes the 16m basically unusable. Many times the 16m is used in winds up to 10mph without any problems. With skills, 14mph would warrant nothing but a large grin from ear to ear.
For those with little to no big kite skills, 0 to 4 would be at the top of the wind range for those who have 911 pre dialed on their smart phone.

That looks like the new Vapor sizes on the chart. They have fewer sizes and wider wind ranges on the new model it looks like.

I could be wrong on the wind range on my GT but put it away when any angle much below zenith is dragging me sideways.

The benefit to the largest Vapor would be more usable power in those lowest of winds.

If I ever think I don't have something to learn with a kite, it's time to find another hobby. With Ivanpah being my local riding spot for 5 years, big kites and light winds are not something I get to work on often. When I do get to ride with a big kite, it kind of feels like cheating by having so much power with so little wind.

I'm sorry that this thread took a turn for the worse after my sarcastic response to bigkid...

If I have the $$, I would be all over this kite. A low wind session saver for sure.

If it's RTF, it's a great deal. Good deal if not!

Long gone.
This is a great kite with some great attitude for low wind buggy time. Just not a kite for anyone who thinks they are skilled. This size of kite takes more than balls to fly.
Compared to the 14 yak, seriously? I have owned a 14 yak, the GT, the 15.4 Combat and the 16 Vapor. The Vapor and Combat are more alike than either of the yaks. Granted the Combat and Vapor have some differences as they are as different as Chevy and Ford. Depends who is flying what as to who wins the race.

I hope you and Sand flea can work out a deal!
Sometimes it is about matching the right person to a kite when selling. This is one of those kites and Chris is one of very few who can give this kite a good life.

Bob, wasn't Sunset Jim on a 15.4m Combat that big kite day we had at SOBB? The all Black one?

Chris would have to put his 11 away if he got the 16.

I remember a big white kite maybe with blue on it and also an XL combat but can't remember the color. Those two and my GT were about the only ones flying except maybe your FS? I can't recall anyone standing out performance wise. We were lucky to be rolling in that wind.

Am I the only one that actually had horrible flashbacks when watching him fly this kite?

All I could think was "oh God...I remember when I was in that situation!" and "I remember when I was that close to vehicles and could not let go of the kite when I was in over my head!"

Ahhhhhh!!!!

I actually got up and showed this to the wife and said "remember when I explained overpowered...?"

She rolled her eyes at me.
