I was just out poking around my yard as it's the first really nice day we've had this year and I got to thinking. I've got a long narrow field that I
think is just large enough that I could fly my kites and run up and down with a landboard if I had some shorter line sets and if the wind was blowing
just right. I've looked into it somewhat, but I haven't found any guide that goes into great detail about making your own lines. It seems like it
should be pretty straight forward, just measure carefully and tie a solid loop at the ends for a larks head.
With the reading I've done it looks like this 300# Spectra line is pretty standard:
http://amzn.com/B011DPMZKI I only weigh 150lbs so I think that should be plenty strong split between the two main lines even after being knotted.
Is there anything I really need to know before trying to make my own line sets for the 6m Peak? I'll also probably make some short lines for my 3.3m
Flexifoil Control, I don't think I can go wrong with that as the 3 line setup is very simple. I believe the Peak has 21m lines on it now, I'd like a
12m and 6m set.
Alternately, I noticed on the Flysurfer website that the Peak 1 originally could be purchased with optional 12,6 & 3m line sets but I see nowhere
to purchase them now. I haven't had a chance to call Flysurfer yet to see if they can be ordered. If anyone knows of a place that is still selling
them (or if you have some to sell) I would be happy to buy the sets and avoid the DIY route entirely.
