Another newbie question
I will be arriving in Primm on the 1st. I would like to get seat time in before the main event. This will be my first NABX and my skill level is
novice.
Do I need any form of BLM permit?
Any recommendations on where to go or avoid?

Dean posted a few weeks ago that the permit for the event starts on Sunday the 1 st of March so you are covered there.
There might be a few land sailors still on the lake bed (I am not sure when there event ends) just be courteous.
When driving on the lake bed stay to the left of the road. The road is marked with brown poles. If it is wet or raining do not drive on the lake
bed. If it looks like rain get off before it starts, you do not want to get stuck out there.
You might want to join us for the pre-event. There will be a small group of buggyers that go to some other lake beds in California starting the
weekend before. We go to Elmers on Fri., Sat, and Sunday. On Sunday during the day we drive to Supeiror and stay there Sun., Mon. and Tues. On
Tues. we drive to the main event.

There is supposed to be a new way to drive on to the lake bed, but i don't have that info yet.
Want to take this oppurtunity to let you know, if you are registered for the event, and please, if you are coming, do pre-register, Claxton wants to
buggy not deal with your lame ass 'cause you couldn't get it together to push some internet buttons, we will be doing a mass emailing with the permit,
rules, and helpful hints for first timers.
We will try are damnedest to have this to everyone two weeks before the event!
I hope people are using the hotel code, and getting excited about coming. I had an epic day with Elton and Slawek the other day at Ocean Beach, and
am so ready to get playa time!!!

Thanks for the info.
Yes, I'm registered, have room at the hotel, airline and rental car set, 4 shot cars prep'ed, fuel list written, buggy pimped and shined, and REALLY
looking forward to this!
I will await the documentation and attempt to catch up with the pre-event group.
Meet you all soon!

Thanks Corey, it's been a long strange trip. One filled with the most amazing sites, and of course people. Who can forget the kiwi's taking the
sucker wind ride out and their naked walk of shame back? or how about Corey's buggy up the Adelanto Police Station flag pole? Salute that won't
you! The night we all got lost on El Mirage after watching the sunset together, not realizing that on a new lake, with no moon coming up, after the
sun sets, it's, gulp, dark! Waking up in the middle of a lake, after Master Bateman sited the camp, yeah, that was rough. Freeman. The fire
incident.
We have to remember to thank Fran for dragging us into this mess, and all the folks over the years that make what we do the best game in the world,
one which know one in our country seems to even know about.
Dave Kennedy and his brother Mike Jura. Miss you Dave.
Peter and the Flintstone buggy. No buggy to big!
The buggy trains after the rain.
WindJet!
and on and on, more fodder for buggy town Chautauqua's, and more fuel for the shot car racing soon to come, only to pass into memory as the "best"
year we ever had.
Thanks for all the great, amazing, stories, friendships, and chances to meet up around the world, go to the most amazing places, and fly kites. I
may be getting older(thankfully)but i'm still going fast!
find aoxomoxoa live longer, buggy all week!
loving~!
Happy Birthday indeed.........

you are so right man.
i`ll always treasure the friends i made flying kites and buggying. even if the day comes when my body can`t handle the buggy anymore i`ll still look
forward to my days on the playa with my "family".
the buggying i do on the playa is just the icing on the cake.
its all about the people, the camp fire stories, the fun time we have etc.
RIP DAVE. we will be together again soon enough.

All,
I started this post with a simple and hesitant request for information. The responses I have received, in my opinion, have been remarkable. As a
first timer to this event I must admit that there was considerable apprehension in going. (all of the typical, I am going by myself, will they be
friendly, will I stand out and be judged for my lack of skills, will I be welcomed as a part of the 'group', etc, etc) However, each day that I read
the replies, read other posts, and learn the history of the NABX, I am more and more excited to experience the event. I am looking forward becoming
an active and contributing member of this family of friends.
Thank you for the insight and making a newbie welcomed!
See you soon,
Ken

Folks, watch this guy, he spends as much time in the air in his buggy, as he does on the ground in his buggy.

We had a wonderful chance to scare another one off and WE BLEW IT!
Another newbie feeling the pressure...
and we let him off the hook.
Look... If we don't smarten up more and start talking a rough game...
More will hear of this special event and want to attend.
Is THAT what you want?

I think I must disagree….
The pressure is still high, but it has changed from being laughed AT, to being able to keep up laughing WITH.....
I am however still pondering the flying glow-in-the-dark potatoes concept……:o

No...no...
I was just kidding.
Come on in and join the fun.
Remember... The new guy buys.
I suppose we should have mentioned the underware thing to you before now.
Oh well... You'll find out soon enough.
Just be sure to bring spares.
We're not a club.
We're a cult.
With strange and bizarre rituals.
Oh... One last thing...

EXCELLENT!!!
New guy buys....this I can do! I have my list, Cory yours was Irish top fuel if I remember right...:wink2:
Having raised two sons, each with devious predilections to cause embarrassment to father-figure types, I got the DUCK thing down.
A cult with bizarre rituals...Perfect, should be just like going home to the relatives for the holidays.
Having just read the post on night bugging, the underwear issue has some new ramifications....

With apologies to Larry Harvey, here's Corey's secret to this whole mess...
1. Recruit -- Initiates must be actively sought out and recruited. Our approach to participation is proactive. Be prepared to proselytize, seduce
or otherwise welcome the public into your cult.
2. Initiate -- Initiates must experience a trial, a test, perform a ritual action or undergo a rite. They must both act and be acted upon in some
way that transforms their consciousness and prepares them to witness a mystery.
3. Witness -- Initiates must come before a mystery, access to which will be closely guarded. Mysteries should take the form of both a vision and a
ceremonial rite -- participants must again perform an action and in some way be acted upon.
4. Sign -- Initiates must be given a token or sign that represents their possession of secret knowledge and marks their separation from the
uninitiated.
5. Pledge -- Initiates must take an oath not to reveal their privileged experience to others who do not possess such a sign or token.
Now, if you still want in, abandon all hope, ye who enter here!
Don't say you weren't warned! It's not a club!
Oh, and by the way, when aoxomoxoa comes to you, please, let some one know about it, even though, most likely we'll know by the sick permagrin face
you'll be wearing.

Cult: a term designating a cohesive group of people devoted to beliefs or practices. Its status may come about either due to its novel belief system
or its idiosyncratic practices. The literal and traditional meanings of the word cult is derived from the Latin cultus, meaning "care" or "adoration",
or: "the body of adherents to same"
I see no problems with this……
Initiate: one going through initiation. Initiation is a rite of passage ceremony marking entrance or acceptance into a group or society. Normally
an initiation rite would imply a shepherding process where those who are at a higher level guide the initiate through a process of greater exposure of
knowledge. This may include the revelation of secrets, usually reserved for those at the higher level of understanding.
Again, sounds good…….

As long as the initiation rituals don't involve comets or Kool Aid!

Was that "initiates" or "inebraites"?
Makes a difference.
On to the important stuff...
The Kool-aid is delicious.
We've made enough for EVERYBODY!
I'd rather be waiting for a comet...
Than a "full-moon" (if you catch my meaning)
