Tire/wheel option?

So...it looks like I'm gonna get to got to IBX this year. Woot woot! I need to come up with some different tire/wheels. I hear the playa can be rough on tires. I don't want to ruin my bigfoots. So with that said. I suppose I could just put it on barrows or midis. What about Landseglars? I have a front for to fit Landseglars. I just don't have any. Are there any viable alternatives to Landseglars? Any input is welcome.

IMHO the Landseglers are the perfect wheel for lakebed or hard beach riding. There are the spoked aluminum wheels that seem to be equally proficient but are slightly larger diameter while being slightly cheaper. They really need spoke covers for safety and if eliminating the wind resistance of the wide spokes is important to you. Haan makes wheels for motorcycles that are much stronger than the Landseglers but are heavier. I'm not sure of their cost. I've never compromised the Landseglers I have had for about 4 years but Stephan Van Bommel broke a spoke on one. He is probably the toughest on Buggy wheels of anyone in the world at 320 lbs and highly aggressive and one of the fastest in the world.

One very inexpensive option that I have used is golf cart tires. They are 8.5x18.5-8 and will fit on the standard buggy rims. They are made for use on the street so they are more durable, and most golf cart shops will sell them used for super cheap. I got a pair free, other places had them for $10 and $20 a piece.

It takes a little work to get them off the metal rims, but its doable.

That's good idea Soliver. I'll check it out. There's a huge golf community just south of me. I'll have to check it out. Worst case scenario is I'll be running around on barrows. My goodness though. I'm already picturing how hideous the MG Croozer would look on barrows. LOL! Bobby from all the research I've done I'm sure you're right. The Landseglars are probably the cats meow but unless I can find a reasonable set used. I can't afford the grand to by a set new. I guess I shoulda looked at the cost before posting this. I would love to find a set. Like I said I have the front fork and downtube setup for them on the ol'croozer. Not to mention I'd like to start getting out to Alvord more often as well as make IBX an annual thing. So with hoping to make lakebed riding a larger part of my hobby a set of Landseglars sounds like they would sure fit in nicely.

Personally I feel that you would be best off just going with the barrows that you have for your 1st visit.
Landseglars may be a good option down the road but barrows do the job just fine and will not likely hold you back from getting a PB. LOTS of folks are in the 50mph plus club on barrows.

Wearing out tires on the Playa is also not as big an issue as you may think. Especially for 1st time visits. Folks who are pushing it hard for long runs do eat up the rubber but general cruising under moderate power, not so much.

The disc wheels might make a difference in stability over 60 mph. Above 50 you can feel them tracking straighter with more traction. But I looked back and was still using smoothie barrows when I first broke 100 kph. I've had dozens of runs over 60 since getting the Landseglers but that's probably more to do with skills and confidence getting better. I like running the Landseglers way better but they are far from a requirement.

What about some of the ATV options out there? For instance...I found the Kenda Speed racers in 21x10x8 that would fit on my rims. Has anyone tried these? They're only about $80 a peace. Which isn't much more than it would cost me to buy barrows and rims.im going to assume there on the heavy side. But I'm not out to set records. I just want something that's going to hold up to some abuse on the playa without breaking the bank. Not to mention, I don't know what the Croozer weighs but I'd guess close to 100# and I tip the scales at 315# so yeah. I don't know maybe I'm over thinking it. I just don't want to ruin my beach tires. I can't afford new ones.

I believe both Erin and Shawn were riding the Kenda beach racers when I have been down to sunset Beach in the past.

I've seen two buggies running the speed racers and you might never wear them out. They might hamper your speed but for your first time on the lakebed, that can be a good thing.

Thanks for all the helpful info guys. I think I've sold myself on the speed racer idea.

Those Kenda's might be too much tire... but they will never wear out.

The last time I was at Ivanpah, I rode pretty hard for a couple of the days and wore out a set of 4 ply smoothie barrow tires. Most people never wear out tires on the lakebed their 1st time out. Unless things have changed a lot, most people are fine with whatever is on their buggy. Only a few are burning up the rubber on a daily basis.

Cheap is best unless you are chasing 60mph out there.

So I decided to give the Nanco's a try. $100 for a set of three shipped to my door i cant complain. Now just waiting for the wheels to show up. I ordered a set of PL wheels from A Wind Of Change. So i don't expect to see them anytime soon. But luckly i got another set of used ones on the way.

Blitz,
that's what I run on the beach on back of my my wide/long flexi.
Made a huge improvement over midis.
Now if I could just figure out a way to get one in the front.
Tired of always running downhill with a midi up front. :D
Still can't find a BF lite fork for a flexi.
Even all the PL bigfoot front forks are unobtainable.
It's looking like a custom fork and downtube is needed.
