berserk/ferocious conditions static kite(s)
hey - i'm looking for a flexi sting II 1.2 for nut-case flying. any other recommendations from anyone?
i have absolutely nothing else to do when the wind goes bonkers, so i thought that buzzing a kite around could be an option.
what's your high-wind favorites for static conditions?
just looking for a workout.
i'm a whopping 149 pounds.

Pansh periodically has sales/deep discounts. Ryan might have gotten the kite during one of those periods and the sale might have just ended.
Hopefully he will chime in with more details.

Just to be clear, the $49 ($54 with tax?) is Kite ONLY right?
With Handles, lines, and kite killers, the prices looks to be US$94.00 after it is added to the cart.

think I got one for 94 bucks complete. got a message that the payment failed, but also got a payment confirmation. we'll see what happens.
if nothing else, I can swap the lines and maybe handles when I find a sting 1.2.

1.4 flux is more than enough
was pleasantly surprised by the pansh flux.
i had foolishly thought that i'd static fly a small kite when it became too windy to do anything else.
when it hits 30mph i will simply troll this wonderful forum and attempt to increase my knowledge.
the kites will stay in the bag.
live and learn, i guess.

Holy crab apples! I wish I could buggy with a 1.4m, I think I'd need a hurricane for that lol. Then again I'm 6'8" 320# and the Croozer is probably at
least another 100# I do sometimes miss the Vmax for its size and weight. I got a 1.5m Alpha I'd love to try buggyin with. But so far the smallest kite
I've buggied with is my 2.0m Pansh Legend. It's not a horrible kite...but it's not very stable. Took some getting used to. I haven't flown a new pansh
but all the ones I have flown are not very user friendly. But that's just my opinion.

purely static. i'll get around to crashing on my mountainboard eventually, but it'll be in sissy winds.
I have recently ordered a 2m flux that should be here in a couple of days. I'm on a waiting list of sorts for a 3m.
based on information on this site and anything else I could gather, the flux model is their best kite line. everything else seems iffy.
I'm 6'1" and 149lbs. something you would likely use as a toothpick. it doesn't seem to take much kite to flop me around.
if you're thinking about possibly replacing the legend, I was led to the pansh brand because of their 1/2 off sale. you could get the 2m flux (which
most here claim to be quite stable and mostly equal to a beamer) for 70 bucks. add 40 bucks RTF, or just swap the legend as is. linesets are super
cheap as well.

I use either of my Symphonies for berzerk wind static flight. The 2.2 will make me take a step or two in the 30-40 mph wind range, until one of its
fly lines breaks, lol. The factory ones arent very strong, lol. The 1.3 in the same wind just plain hauls ass all over the place, lol. Granted,
theyre 2 line sport kites, but still a hoot to fly in crazy wind!

I really like my 1.5m Alpha for static nuclear winds. She's not super fast but very stable and very predictable. I think it was $150 RTF. It's a very
user friendly kite, right out of the bag. No tweeking or tuning required. It's also my favorite kite to let interested new people fly. They are built
pretty solid. I really enjoy the Alpha's. I think they are a perfect low budget entry level four line kite. I'm not looking to replace the Legend. It
was a gift. It doesn't really have a place in my buggy quiver these days. I was just sharing my experience with Pansh kites with you. I have also
flown a 4.5m Adam, and a 7.0m Flux. The Adam was very lifty. At zenith it tried several times to lift me out of the buggy when I didn't want to get
out. When I flew the flux it was static in very light wind. It seems fine but 2-4mph wind static flying isn't a really good indicator. The only good
word I ever hear associated with Panch is "CHEAP". I firmly believe that more often than not. You get what you pay for. I know I know sometimes you
just have to go with what you can afford. But the day you fly your panch then fly a similar kite from one of the more reputable makers. You'll finally
know what I mean. I apologize to any Panch fanboy's out there that might get offended. These are only my personal opinions. Please by all means.
Develop your own opinions on Pansh. I hope they work out for you.

I have a II hornet 2m from angus Campbell. love, love, love to fly it. let my neighbor try it. bang! into the ground. multiple times. I was cringing.
he's flown my rushes, so I was surprised.
so, the pansh will serve 2 purposes. it's a test dummy against the hornet, and a crasher for the other dummy.
picked up a III hornet 3m on craigslist. I've only had it out a couple of times, but I really like that one, too. when the 3m pansh becomes
available, it'll be in the same boat as the 2m. and, i'll work that one first for landboard use, whether it sucks or not.
also grabbed a I beamer 3.6m for 70 bucks on some classified ad. it's only been up once, and it scared the crap out of me. I'm sure i'll get used to
it, though.

I misunderstood I didn't realize you already had other kites. My apologies. The Hornet is a superb kite. That 3m is a perfect beginner buggy engine. I
don't know about boarding. I have one but it's for my son not me and I'm teaching him on Depowers. I'm willing to bet money you're going to be
disappointed in your Pansh especially if your going to put it up against a Hornet. (I could be wrong and honestly hope I am.) But it will make for a
cheap beater that you can put in the hands of people you don't like. Haha! Even at only 2.0m I won't let anyone fly the Legend. They can fly that
Alpha all they want. They can even have a go at the 5.0m Beamer. But the Legend is just to unpredictable. I'm always afraid someone will get hurt.
Hopefully the flux is better. Please let us know your take on the flux once you have a chance to get a feel for it. I'm very much interested in what
you think of it since you already have experience with other kites like the Hornet and Beamer.

I have been pleasantly surprised with the Cross Kites Quattro. These kites are made by Peter Lynn and are built excellent, come complete, ready to

I have buggied with the 1.5. It is a lower aspect ratio kite so it is super stable (what you need in nuking winds) but still has excellent power and
fair upwind ability. I am 320# on an Ivanpah buggy.

blitzhound - flux 2m initial impression
you had stated that you would bet money that i would be disappointed. you would have... won the bet.
it does not launch, land, or behave at all like the 2m hornet.
my other kites have a definite position that they assume for launching when not weighted. they hang out, waiting for action, with their leading edges
eager to grab wind. the pansh lies in a heap of bunched up cloth.
the other kites pop up immediately with a tug on the top of the handles.
the pansh needs a lot of jerking while alternating between power line and brake line input. once the kite finally becomes vertical on the ground, it
still needs some hefty effort to go up.
i was in very low to 16mph funky wind yesterday.
in the air, fully powered, it pulled as well as the hornet. no big surprise there.
however... when not fully powered, you can see a lot of slack in the main bridles if the kite is not perfectly centered in the wind. if the wind is
more on the right side of the kite, the left side is sagging. i have not noticed that with my other kites, but will look more closely next time they
go up.
the pansh does not stay put very well. the hornet will stay anywhere quite happily with very little input. when i tried to park the pansh anywhere
with just a bit of brake it would stop, then gradually fall out of position.
in the first 1/2 hour or so, the handles never felt centered like my other kites. sometimes they felt very top-weighted, then bottom-weighted, but
rarely did i have even pressure like i am used to.
after the 1/2 hour, it seemed better, but not great. perhaps the bridling needed to tighten up its' connections. i cannot think of any other reason.
there was a lot of tip tuck and full side collapse in many simple maneuvers with the pansh as well.
landing the hornet anywhere is cake.
landing the pansh was fairly miserable. a little brake, and it did go down smoothly. stronger brake input made it collapse on the bottom edge and
landing was erratic. it NEVER landed leading edge up. i didn't have the greatest wind at ground level, since i was flying in a school field with
houses and trees at my back, but the hornet went down well in the same conditions many times. the pansh would get close to landing, and flip over. i
have had other kites exhibit that tendency, but i could usually (not always) correct that with some wild arm movements.
once landing trailing edge up, it was a worse heap than normal and took way more work to straighten out than should have been necessary.
do to the pansh's schizophrenia, i have to group it with your legend.
using it as a training tool for my neighbor won't work as well as i had hoped because he is not used to 4 line kites yet and messing around with the
pansh will only make it harder for him to learn because of its' unpredictability. he may actually be putting in correct actions, but this kite may not
respond properly to that.
all that being said, i will certainly continue to play around with this pansh 2m. if i can learn to fly this better and get used to the quirks, then
it can only make me a better flyer all around. so it does have value.
i've been coaching springboard diving for 39 years. i learn something from every kid that i teach. that helps me with every other kid in the future
that may have the same problems.
this kite will do the same thing with my future kites.

In more wind the kite flies normal. They are not light wind kites that's for sure. But they can sure take a lot of wind. I was flying the 5m with
the buggy last night well powered up. Throwing big loops and it flies as well and goes as fast as any other kite. For the price(1/2 price!) it just
can't be beat right now.
I think maybe due to its highish aspect it exhibits the traits you witnessed in lighter winds. I've noticed too when the wind gets light; it does
take some skill to keep it going and work around its quirks.
The Hornet is an extremely refined and well behaved kite. It stays pumped up and doesn't exhibit any bad traits. But it's got a price to go with it.
Only in lighter winds is the Pansh quirky and more challenging to fly. But you can get good at it and master it's quirks.

rtz - thanks for this reply. I will continue to work the flux as much as I can. I do agree with the pricing idea. all of this does, however, make me
want to save up for a current model hornet. I will also be searching for a good price on a 2.6m skydog so I have something between the 2 and 3m
hornets. today would have been a great day to have that.
in regards to the slack bridling, I just had the 3m hornet out and see the same thing. the hornet is white and yellow where the power bridling is.
the flux is black with a dark red star, so it showed the white bridle lines very clearly.
I am glad that you said that the flux works better in stronger wind, because that's exactly why I bought it. (along with the 1.4) I guess any further
review from me should reflect that flying condition.
I do appreciate your thoughts. keep 'em coming!

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!
With that said. Learning to drive a car with flat tires and a broken steering wheel doesn't make you a better driver.
When you go to a dealership to buy a new car and the salesman says "it's got some issues but you'll get used to them." Do you say yeah your right and
buy the P.O.S. or do you keep shopping.
If you try on a new pair of shoes and they hurt your feet. Do you buy them anyway and just tell yourself you'll get used to it?
I'm going to assume that your answer to these questions is no.
Then why would you say yes to buying a cheap knockoff of a piece of equipment that you will be in a way intrusting your life to?
Would you as a pilot get into an airplane that you know does not function properly, was not well made and could break at any giving time. Simply
telling yourself that you are so good a pilot that you can compensate for the airplanes short comings with your amazing skills? If the answer is yes.
Then you are not a very good pilot and you are going to hurt yourself or someone else. That in my opinion makes YOU more dangerous then the crappy
airplane.
It's not uncommon to buy a car cheap knowing it needs work. But usually you do it with a car that started out as a good car. You don't by a crappy
knockoff that doesn't work with the idea that your going to make it better. Because that usually just ends up costing more in the long run.
I'm sorry you were disappointed in the kite. I had honestly hoped for a better result. But you don't buy a fake Rolex expecting it to perform like a
Rolex.
There is a reason you don't see used Hornets come up for sale often. These are kites that you keep forever. Because they are that good. They are worth
the money. So what if you have to save for a few more months to get it. It's worth the wait.
Again these are just my personal opinions. I don't understand the mentality behind people wanting to by cheap knockoffs.

blitzhound - good, solid, sound opinions all based on fact. your examples may be a bit extreme, though. i doubt that i'll be in any life or death
situations with my 1.4 and 2.0 fluxes flying static only.
getting what you've paid for is a tried and true way of life. with these kites, complete, for 94 and 110 bucks, respectively, are they worth it? i
have to say yes. would they be worth full price, once the 1/2 off sale ends? no, i do not believe so.
my cheap mentality at the moment is due to my gross pay of about 1,000.00 bucks a month average. i need to make choices that aren't always ideal.
i shall search for better kites as i go along.

Far enough. I may have gone a little overboard on the examples. I understand completely what it means to be on a limited to no budget. I guess I also
get the appeal of the low price of these kites. The best I can tell you is buy used. I have only ever purchased two kites new. My first kite the 5m
Beamer and recently a 10m PKD Century. Beyond that everything I have for kites and buggy are all second hand. Sure I'd love to have some of the more
expensive kites. I'd love to have a new Ozone Frenzy. But I got an ex-wife and three kids. It's not going to happen. I do however feel that even older
used versions are better then the junk Pansh sells.

flux 2m revisited
banged the flux around today in mostly stable 11-12mph wind. it was WAAAYYYY better in all areas compared to the rotten virgin flight. the wind
direction changed 180 degrees and i had a much cleaner line of flight.
THIS is what i had mostly hoped for with the cheapo purchase and i do not feel now that it was such a horrible idea.
it'll now actually get more use than i thought it would originally.
