Today I went to Ivanpah for my second time ever to catch a glimpse of NALSA and maybe catch some wingsurfing across I-15 if the wind was up. Well unfortunately the wind never really picked up, but hey, got a whole week to wait for wind at NABX.

I did however see something that disturbed me. First was the plastic bags blown into brush alongside the road. I can't assume someone just left it there, so it's safer to assume wind blew the trash in. Either way, I think maybe if we all pick up a piece on our way in and out we'll find the playa much cleaner than it was when we arrived. I'm no eco-freak, but if the wind did blow it in, as wind powered enthusiasts it's kinda our responsibility to pay a small price for reaping such a great reward.

I also saw 2 people driving parrallel to the road but not on the road. First instinct is grrrrrr..... but then I realize they may have been confused by the signs, though I found it pretty self-explanatory. i honked and waved them over, but they mistook it as a greeting and kept on going. I don't know if there will be someone to explain this at the gate at NABX as I have never been to one yet, or if this has even been covered elsewhere specifically, so I'll go ahead and say it.

Upon entering the gate the signs instruct you to stay to the east of the brown markers. They are about 3-4' tall. What it doesn't tell you is that there are 2 lines of markers about 150' apart. Which one do you stay to the left/east of? Well if you drive close to the markers on your left/east you will see an arrow pointing to the right/west. Stay to the right of these markers. Upon driving closer to the right/west markers you will see an aroow on the marker pointing to the left/east.

So you need to stay in between these markers.This is "the road". Don't drive in new tracks as it establishes ruts. Speed limit is 30mph, though if the wind is above 10mph, slowing down to 20mph top is probably courteous and slow to creeping around people and camps. No one likes a dusthole.

The idea folks, is to not make a "road". That was a mistake. So, to that end, try and stay out of ruts, any ruts, and of course, as we all know now, as the BLM reminds me, each year, do not drive anywhere it is wet or muddy.

Picking up trash is fantastic. If we can leave the place better than we found it, even better!
