Still need to figure out what I want for rails. I miss being on skis and I'm hoping these will give me that same feel.

The mountainboard is fun, but the little 8" wheels are too small for my fields here.

I'll post some pics when I'm finished.

I was looking at building a set too and got to about where you are before I gave up and just bought my landboard. I'm a skier so I miss that in the summer but I'm also sort of lazy so I took the path of least resistance. Good luck. If I could get a set of rails easily, I'd make myself a pair too.

Those should work out great, Da Vinch. One of the things I was having trouble with was the fact that when I got mine on, there was no way I could stand up without either help or the kite pulling me up. If I was to build a pair again, I'd look into lowering the boots a few inches, but I'm not sure what this would do to the handling. Sitting on my butt in the middle of a field, swearing under my breath was just embarrassing. Seeing as how I never got over about a half a mile an hour, poor handling never raised it's ugly head. It would be much more of a hassle making rails with bends though,at least for me. Good Luck!

I find that my Coyotes give a similar ride to my skis. At about $100 I was happy to give them a try. They are VERY well biult. I like the short wheel base. It makes for sharper turns, easier side slide, the ability to run out a situation and drag a toe for speed adjustment all are positives to me. If you don't like the dooms you aught to ride the Coyote !

The major down point is that they don't run well at all on sand.

I was really close to ordering the 12" Rockville Leaps, but I figured I could try these out first to see if skates are for me.

Snowbird - I like the look of the Coyotes. I just need something that will roll over bumps better than my 8" mountainboard wheels. How do they do on grass??

I'm very impressed with the Coyotes on grass and rough ground. I'm a bit let down with how they ( don't ) perform on sand though.

Coyote Rollerblades come up on Ebay on a regular basis. Search Coyote rollerblades under all catagories. It's only a matter of time until your size comes up. They aren't produced any more !? I have odd feet and was worried they may be uncomfortable but they are well made.
It seems that they usually go for about $100. Odd sizes are often cheaper.

I posted under Wanted on here and that is when I got lucky !!!!! Posting that you want them on kite forum and racekite forum couldn't hurt. Possibly Flexi forum as well.

Wow...and only 8.99 each. Yea I saw that MTB you made, nice one. Question on the side, what did it take to adapt those wheels to the MTB. Any special things to do or bearings to replace or just a straight bolt on.

It was pretty straight forward, but I had to get some bushings to fit the MBS axles - I got them at Maynards (like a Home Depot). The wheels & bearings are holding up well so far. The best 12”ers would be from Skyway, but they cost a bunch more.

The 12”ers are really smooth – they make my local field much more enjoyable. I don’t think I’ll be switching back to the 8”ers any time soon.

Have you done any jumping with your board? I'm just wondering how well the wheels will hold up. I just tried mountainboarding the other day on an already harvested farmers field and had a real hard time getting going and staying up wind, so I was thinking about making a pair of doom wheels myself. Also, I did a fair amount of kite skiing last winter so I think I'll pick it up faster than boarding. I've got a pair of roller baldes and a whole shop full of stuff I can use for rails and to build the things, I just need some wheels now.

saskalex - so far so good with the wheels. I have jumped (floaty jumps - no rotations) with the board and they seem to be holding up very well.

I only have about 3 hours on them so far since I've been hitting the water more this summer...

Did you ever get on the doom wheels ? How would you compare them to Kite skiing ? Turns out the Coyotes will run on true hard pack sand like Sunset Beach Oregon ! Right now I'm trying to get ATB down but doom wheels will enter my bag some day !

Not yet Snowbird - I've been too busy trying to kitesurf Still can't make it back upwind to my bag. Good thing it's a small lake...

At least you know you can kite ! I was stuck trying to get my surfboard skills and wondered if I shouldn't just give up. Started to think I couldn't kite as well as surf. I'm hoping the ATB experience will help.

I am thinking of building some offroad rb's b/c I used to rb and I have never been good on a skateboard but the 12" seem huge. With little experience my concern would be extra weight with solid rubber but the shipping weight is less. My other concern would be less shock absorbency? What do you think about solid wheels?:puzzled:

At only $8.99 it would be worth at try. However, I would be worried that the tire may want to "peel" off the rim easily.

Maybe a set of 8 or 9" MBS wheels would do the trick...

Also the bore size on those is pretty small, only 5/16". I really don't see any advantage to the 12" pneumatics. I'm currently riding on some prototype doom wheels with 8" mbs tires and I'm definitely going to switch to 12" tires.

The wheels I bought from Norhern Tool look just like those you posted, Timber, but they're pneumatic. The main trouble I had the only time I ever tried the darn things was just trying to stand! Looking back, I should have:
#1 -Not tried them without having more experience with a kite in the first place.
#2 - Had more wind as it was only blowing 0 to 5mph.
#3 - Tried it in a less obvious place, as it was embarrassing as hell sitting there on my butt swearing, not able to even stand up, as little kids snickered.

The Doomwheels site makes it look so easy! I could probably do fine now, but I really enjoy buggying. So if anyone has a spare set of lines and handles, and isn't interested in building their own, gimme a yell. I might be interested in another interesting trade, they're just sitting up there collecting dust.
