I'm one of the oldest regulars on land around here. I'm supposed to be 48. I keep forgetting that :smug: ( truth is, it's slowing my progression )
The demographic seems to be changing as equipment becomes cheaper and the sport more popular. On water particularily it was a 30 + sport, sort of to my surprise. With cheaper equipment younger people can find the money for gear and it's the younger ones that are going to take things up a notch or two !

Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
Flexifoil: 1.7m Sting, 4.9m Blade 3, 9m Blade 2.

Peter Lynn :18m Phantom, 15m Synergy, 10m Synergy, 1200 Farc, 460 Sarc, 130 Tarc, 5m Peel, 4.2m , 6.4, 8.5 C-Quads, 3.5 LS2 single skin.

Rides: Flexi / P.L. Frankin'Buggy , Shaped + straight skiis, sand skis, Coyote blades. Core 95 ATB. RKB R2 ATB .

36 here, been kiting for 3+ years now. I know guys in their 60's that still kite though. People tend to move more towards the buggies instead of ATB's as they start getting a little older, less chance of a serious impact. Still doesn't stop them from ripping around like madmen.

Too much of a coincidence -> "nus"

That’s too much of a coincidence “nus”! I’ll make my first post to say that your answer of

“28 just started last year.... that's only because I never knew about it until last year”

would have been my answer as well.

A) I’m also 28
B) I also started last winter after discovering this now addictive hobby
C) I’m also on the North Shore of MA, Georgetown to be exact.

I’ve been looking for others flyers in the area and or other areas to fly. What town are you from?
I’ve been kite bugging at Nahant Beach that past 2 months.

I actually started by ice kiting this winter on Lake Quannopowitt at lunch time. I would see the Iceboats on the frozen lake from the window at my desk and decided I could do the same with skates and a kite.

Some boring videos of me doing this.

24 years old, flying power kites for 3 years now and kite-landboarding for almost 6 months now:singing:

one thing you will most clearly notice is that England's youth are more interested/active in the sport than any country I've read about.

If you think it\'s hard explaining HOW something works, try explaining WHY it doesn\'t work.

Correction. that is to say England's youth are more interested/active in Kite-Tracion Sports. In the mid to far-east many kids fly single line, or at least so I hear/ am told.

I'm 56 now.
Started power kiting in 1977 with a stack of 6' Flexis.
Began buggying in 1990.
Bought my first buggy in 1991.
Started buggying the dry lake beds of the Mojave in 1992.
Moved to the desert for more in 1999.

I love this, as it never gets old.

Just turned 45,,, Saw my first kite buggy about 8years ago... inquired about the cost of them at that time,,, decided not to make the investment then,,, sorry I didn't, I could have been buggying all this time.. Saw a video on you tube about 4months ago and started doing research. Got my first kite about 3months ago, got the big foot buggy about one month ago. Starting out slow,,, practicing, want to try to do it right without killing myself. Glad to see that there are so many older people,,, at least I know I have made a good investment that I can use for years to come.

I'm about to turn 45. Started flying bat kites at 9 years old. Got my first delta 2 line about 10 years ago. Got a Symphony 1.8 8 years ago. Met Angus about 6 weeks ago and now I have a Beamer III 3.0. Now I've been looking real hard at a blade or crossfire. Onward and upward.

Edit 11/28/07

Well, I got the Crossie, and a Pansh 5.0, and just recently a Signature Profoil 1.5 for the high wind days. I have tried a buggy twice now and think I will get someone to weld one up for me. We'll see how that goes.

I'm 60 and buggy with my son who is 30. I have flown small kites all my life stunt kites about 8 yrs and power kiting and buggying about 3. I used to sail small boats. There is something about trying to control something, the wind, which you have no control over. When you do that even for a brief time that is AOMOXOMOA!

It is sort of like trying to raise teenagers
