Would a large parafoil make a good beach shade?
I have a problem. I've had it for years... Every time I go to the beach I struggle with finding shade. Umbrellas get ripped out of the sand, canopies
crumble, portable awnings last a few days.
I'm thinking that a shade made from one or more parafoils could provide shade and not be bulky or collapse in the wind.
Has anyone here attempted such a thing?

My guess is that it would be moving around too much for it to provide much shade.

My thought is to bring the kite in very close to the ground, so even though it would move, there would still be a lot of ground cover and a little
wiggle wouldnt really affect it as much.

Yes it can be done it was done years ago
Here's the story
I got from eBay a halo parachute (high altitude low opening)
I tried making a kite from it but I couldn't get it to fly right
My friend AJ took it from me and got it to fly 10 ft off ground sideways
Using it like a shade it's all how you find the right angle of attack
using the four corners as anchor points there was a picture of it
way back in the day

That HALO looks like a good starting point - thanks for chiming in. If you find that pic, it could be helpful to me - if not, you've given me a good
starting point. I met AJ once if its the same dude (Action Jackson) - good guy. I was very sorry to hear the news - he was living my dream at the time
of his passing (living his, too, so at least there is that).
Thanks again.

or just use an old LEI. pump it up, position it into the wind.
