Spanking story

Almost everyone who flies big kites has a spanking story to tell...

... ok... get your mind out of the gutter... I meant where the KITE did it....

Was hardly any wind in my local field this afternoon. Such a let down, after driving home and seeing the flags straight out... but the closer I got to the house, the less wind there was. ANyways... just enough to put up the 8meter smiley kite and get an occasional five foot scud or so out of it on the hard packed infield of the baseball diamond.

Some friends of my daughters showed up, and said that my kite looked cool. Like I said, hardly any wind, but was making it do a loop and pick up some speed... when along came a decent gust right as I was sending it to the top of the window. I got lofted about ten feet into the air and about the same forward. Came down and scudded a bit, then lost my feet from under me and smack onto my b#tt. I'm laughing and just kept the kite under control...

SO now I have a rasberry... and you can guess where. :moon:

Oh well... at least some wipeouts are funny... most just hurt. Looks like a good forecast for the local Texas Beaches this weekend, so figure I'll grab a tent and some kites and things and head to the coast Saturday.

Have fun :frog:

Ya know... you just can never be too careful while your learning.

Was out a couple weeks ago at low tide, playing around in the buggy. Not really going anywhere, just making myself get going and doing power slides all over the place on the wet sand. Did a good slide and the nose of the buggy ends up pointing dead down wind. I figure... I'll power the kite a little, and backup in reverse and turn. Starting rolling backwards, turned the front wheel the opposite way I wanted... looked up at the kite, and turned the bar hard the other way for some reason... so instead of going back to nuetral... I hit the EJECT button... Whoosh! Out I go... activated the safety and plopped down onto the sand. Wife looks at me and starts laughing.. wnats to know if I can do it again :)

Lol... just goes to show... it's when you get over-confident, that's when you get spanked  But hey... for some of us, that's how we learn.

Power slides in the hard pack is soooo much fun. I could spend days just doing that. Hope to see you on the beach soon with the crowds starting to thin out.

Buggy on.

I caught part of an OBE last weekend on my helmet cam mounted on my buggy. Shame it didn't capture exactly what happened, but at the end of a run you see the side of my leg and then suddenly I go up in the air out of the picture. The next thing the buggy rolls round in the wind to face me and I'm coming back across the field from about 20 feet away. Would have been cool if it captured the whole thing (not too sure how I go that far away from the buggy, but part of it was being dragged on my back!) - I'll get it uploaded to YouTube at some point ;)
