Not if the sand is very soft or if you're on soft deep grass, or other soft ground where you have a lot of rolling resistance....

Don't feel bad if you're not hitting the speeds, best I got locally is something like 30mph, small parks, softish sand, low winds. Then I hit Ivanpah,
45.6mph on a 2m kite. Location and conditions have a lot do to with it, then when everything lines up it comes down to the size of your kahunas. Still
got to break the 50mph mark myself.
Congrats Popeye.

on Friday 09-11-2007 it was a stormy day in holland.
the water came too high due to the wind so there was virtualy no beach left.
click here for a small video-impression
but the wind on Sunday 11-11-2007 a bit more from the west at around 9 bft (42 knots)..
and the beach was in a perfect shape,
no personal record and still no world record, but sertanly a mensionable speed...
as you can see on the third photo it was 94KMH (58.7 MPH)
and the run after this was also a 90+ KMH..
i was flying a Libre Vampir 2.3mē.
i'm still aiming for 100KMH (62.5 MPH),
but this was also satisfactory...
next storm in Holland is predicted on the weekend of 28-11-2007,
maybe then a new landspeedrecord for me..
are there on your side of the ocean any new records set lately??
just left it for a few minuts...

Brilliant well done, the winds have been strong here but westerly, I need an easterly for my nearest fave beach for an onshore, the guys on the west
side have been hitting some good speeds.
Once again Brilliant

Popeye
Do you have personal contact with buggyers that are active on the westcoast of England, or is there also a powerkiteforum in the UK??
