Planning on flying tonight
Got my kite in the mail today, and I'm planning on taking it for its inaugural flight tonight.
The weather is calling for 5-10mph winds, and I'll be flying an imp quattro 3.5. This wind won't be too excessive for a first flight, will it?
I'm pretty confident that I know what to expect, but am just curious if there is anything else that i should be aware of. I was planning on purchasing
a helmet, and keeping the kite for the most part out of the power zone until i got a feel for it.
I may try some scudding if i feel up to it.
All in all, I think I'm pretty prepared based on all the guides and things i've been reading, but is there any key points that need to be restressed
or restated? Anything I may have missed that I should be cautious about?
Thanks!

archkiter, do you feel like driving down to salem tonight? I was planning on flying at bush park, so you're more than welcome to join me. It'd also be
nice to have someone with experience there.
Just a thought. U2U me if you do want to meet up.

Can't make it to Salem tonight.... sorry, to much of a drive after work and such for me. It would be cool to meet up sometime though. Flying at the
coast is awesome and I usually pass through Salem when heading out to Newport. Let me know if you are thinking about hitting the coast one weekend
and I'd probably happily join you. I'll let you know if I'm gonna be down your way ever.
BTW- I am planning on going out to Sunset Beach tomorrow if you have any interest in meeting up out there
Cheers,
Stace

Trying to decide where to go this weekend. Where in Newport is good?
How is bush park (salem), is there lots of room? Big open grass fields to board on?
Would be good to find some new stomping grounds... only been to sunset and florence besides eugene.
conju I might be headed through salem tonight on my way to portland if I go that direction..

South beach is a great beach, just south of Newport. I haven't buggied there yet but at least in the winter and spring I know that there is nice
hardpack as well as dunes. Beverly Beach is also very nice. Not quite as wide, but goes on for miles.
On the northern and central part of the coast checkout Manzanita and Oceanside.
Oh man, pretty much the whole coast is great

Like Stacey stated, sounds like very good wind speed to start off with; however, I have my doughts on bush park. It is a nice open field but
unfortunately the tree's that outline the park I think will mess up the wind pretty bad. There is a formula that I can't recall exactly but it seems
like it goes something like: heigth of an obstacle x7 is the distance from that point that the wind is effected.
So for example, if the tree's are roughly 50' high, to be clear of it's influence on the wind, you would have to be about 350' away from it.
I would suggest perhaps one of the high school fields in the area. McNary probably has one of the most open fields from what I recall. But then again
my memory doesn't always do me so well *smile*

How was the maiden Flight? Did bush park work out for you? Or did you try McNary? I didn't make it out of eugene until after 6 so I couldn't make it.
good luck!

I tried a few fields in salem with little luck at each one, but i went out to the in-laws farm yesterday and there was plenty of wind.
Man what a rush! That thing was so much fun I couldn't put it down. I shared it with my brothers and father in law (all of whom really enjoyed it)
I didn't have enough pull for any scudding or anything like that, but just feeling the power behind the kite was enough for me.
My wife tried it out and had some fun, but got frustrated with it. oh well, next time...
winds were from the north about 5-10 mph with gusts at about 15mph, made for a really fun session.

Yeah Jim is right it's pretty damn nice up there. You should give it a shot sometime.
The winds are pretty crazy in eugene today. Probably right around 20 with gusts higher. Hit the baseball diamond for some crazy scudding.:singing:
