Kitesurf kite with a board is this crazy??

Im very into ATBing and have an equally keen interst in kite flying. recently me dad has decided to buy a speed boat which i can wakeboard off of and my local ski/wakeboard shop have told me i can use a wakeboard as a kiteboard therefor i am going to hopefully soon buy a north or flexi surfing kite. but... would it be mad to use it with my board or shall i just stick with my foil?? please help??

If you mean your wakeboard, well you have your answer from the ski shop. The locals here can kiteboard on a cafeteria tray if then needed/ wanted to.

You can take your LEI out on an ATB but there are 2 issues, I think.

One is that anything big enough yank you out of the water is more than you need or want on an ATB, depending on your riding style.
I have a 10m twinskin inflatable for the buggy but the water guys need near 20 mph wind to get a good ride out of it. The two applications are at odds, (kite) size wise.

The other issue is that an LEI is more prone to puncture on land.

Kiteboarding is kiteboarding and wakeboarding is wakeboarding. While Lou Wainman could ride a McDonalds tray ( do to his kite skills ) he also turned his back on wakeboards right away. He was a champion wakeboarder that was one of the 1st kiteboarders. I don't know exactly why they don't work that well but I think it has to do with the rocker. Not many folks choose to boot in anymore either. It's not that you can't do it so much as it's going to be A LOT tougher to figure out without the right gear.
I think you would be almost as well off learning on a skim board :puzzled: At least people actually kite with skimboards.

wake board, too much rocker, too much drag to kitesurf effectively with, but back to the original question.

I believe it was can he use his LEI with his ATB, of course, you'll just be flying in less wind to start off with, Tubes give a huge amount of lift and float, so well suited for freestyle ATB, down side, as mentioned above, tubes pop when whacking the ground repeatedly, so you'll find that while a lot of advanced riders use them, there's not that many beginners using tubes.

I've been using my 16m Scorpion both for surf and ATB though, wicked depower, something like 80%, then I can tune the power down more with pigtail extentions and internal power strap adjusters. Usually ride it tuned down for land, tuned right up for surf. Down side, big kite and slowish turning speed on land.

Buggy=racekite every time, just soo fast and smoove.
