Fall Thang Sept. 8 & 9

Hey Sailors,
That time of year has come around again.
The summer heat is about to break.

For the 14th year we gather in the desert to commune with our gawd of wind - Earl.

We'll be gathering at El Mirage Dry Lake (Elmer's) for the Fall Thang, the weekend of Sept. 8 & 9.

The weekend AFTER Labor Day gives us a chance to not have as many motor-heads tearing up the lakebed and disturbing our peace and quiet.

We'll be meeting at the S.O.P. (same old place), Walt's Cove, about 3.5 miles up the lakebed from the entrance, on the right side.

All wind-heads are invited.

There are no services on the lakebed.
Bring everything you require.
There are nice permanent toilets on the lake, but not next to where we camp - About 1/2 mile away.

A variety of motels and restaurants are within 20 miles.

Directions to Elmer's can be found at the Wind Wizards site:
www.windwiz.com
Also you might like to check out the www.buggythang.org site

See you on the playa.

Anybody from the Bay Area headed down to the Thang? I'm thinking about a Pismo stop on Friday... low tide at 2 p.m! If you go I'll be near the one mile marker south of the Grover beach entrance... white Volvo wagon, sometime in the early afternoon.

Sounds like a blast...was planning to go up there this weekend but forecast called for isolated t-storms and flash floods...hopefully that monsoonal moisture will leave by next weekend...it would be nice to meet some of the people on this forum in person.

What time does 'everyone' usually show up on Sat?

See you all there....

I am planning to show up to see whats going on... but have seen little discussion about this. I am a newbie but doing OK and interested in improving.

Will the recent rains up in the desert affect the event?

Hey Sailors,
We probably don't talk this event up as much as others because we don't have organized races or things like that to attract folks.
We like it small(ish) and intimate.

The rain don't usually affect us unless they have left the lakebed wet.
This time of year, that seldom happens.
Besides, it's a BIG desert and we only want to use a little bitty part of it.

We show up when we can.
Dooley (in the past) would arrive on Thursday with others following.
Now he's a homeowner and all that and missed the last two events.

I plan on leaving Vegas Friday afternoon.
I love waking up on the playa.

:karate: I plan to arrive mid-afternoon on Friday. I checked BLM and they are not indicating there are any problems on the lake bed. The beach is kinda foggy, so we might have a pretty good breeze to play with.
