Anyone got some ideas for a good winter kite? I need something for higher wins thats not going to kill me. Even the 4.9 Blade was a little much in high wind I have been getting kites all summer now I need something for winter.Thanks

Try the smaller Profoils... My little 1.5m was just(9/22) rocking in 11- gusting to 17kt winds... nice scuds too...

(99/23)... If yesterdays winds were any indication of how much the ProFoil 1.5m² pulls in 11-gusting to 17kt winds, I'v not even flown mine in 25mph winds yet, I may have to get a strop, to help me hold on to it... 4-8' scuds on a grassy/sand beach!!!

Yeah I agree, I flew a 1.5 Profoil today in ~24mph winds (thanks to BigSiler).
Performed great, super fast though, you can't take your eye off that little guy.. Pretty much any kite 3m or less is good for higher winds.
Of course it depends on what you are planning to do with it.

I mainly fly FLYSURFER kites, but for junky winter winds... i use a P.Lynn

If you mean winter kite on skis, think de-power kites. I'm not sure if that's what powerzone meant when he mentioned Peter Lynn (PL makes lots of fixed bridle too).

Peter Lynn twinskins like the Vortex or Scorpion are great in the snow, as you can hold down a lot of kite with two edges, and the de-power makes it tunable and manageable in higher winds.

Consider the HQ line of de-powers too, such as the Apex or Monatana. My Montana 2 just found a new home in Quebec where it is awaiting the snow.

Thought you would have used the Pulse for gusty conditons.

I was going to suggest two kites on the depower side of the house. The Flysurfer Pulse and Air Evo. With the Pulse 2 coming out the prices will come down on the current Pulse. The Air Evo is brilliant on land but is designed as a "snow kite".

FB I would say 3 or 4 meter Sami, and the Beamer 3's are the popular kites. The Profoils seem awesome but 1 kite we dont hear alot about in North America are the U Turns. Ripsession doesnt really or cant pimp these kites because he sells them but Ive never read a bad/negative comment on any of their lines. Having said that Ripsession fill us in on the winter useage (snow and or blustery conditions). Im probably going for a smaller Profoil and an Oxi Pro or Butane for bigger winter winds (2 thru 4 meter range). Also, some of the U Turns can de rigged for depower. I understand it takes about 10 mins to set up. Come on Rip, pimp us up!

Not a lot of lift, but really a pleasure to fly and it handles gusty winds well.

I have owned a 8m access before my pulse 7m. both kites are good for snowkiting, predictable and esay to fly for a beginner/intermediate, I loved both but prefer the pulse, takes gusts better, more depower.

even if I have a 4m access (only used for static flying and landboard), during winter on snow, if the wind blows too much for my 7m pulse, it means I stay home because it wouldnt be safe for any kite size

If you're looking for fixed bridal the 2m Brooza is a wicked high/gusty wind kite. Super smooth in the nasty stuff.

Another fixed bridle kite to consider if you aren't going the depower route is the JOJO ET Instinct.

Its extremely stable in gusty conditions, offers moderate lift and great speed.

The 2.5m is what I use on the high wind days. I'm 145#s and I don't know what its top end is but it gets me going around 15mph and I've used it up to 26mph comfortably.
