NPW5 1st flight

I took my npw5 out today for its first flight. This is my first experience with the nasa wing. It was kinda touchy. I needed to stay on the brakes alittle or the nose started to fold in. Is this normal ? There was a small "sweet spot " if I gave it no brakes the nose would fold in and if I gave it alittle too much then it backed down to the ground.

yes brake tension on the NPW's is critical. There must be a little bit of pressure in the brakes at all times.

I have been making and flying nasa wings for several years now. They are great in gusty winds. They need brake input all the time. The higher the wind speed the more brake they require. Once you get more flying time with it you will be able to stay in the sweet spot all the time.

We fly them on handles if you are in a parking lot with poles and most of mine are set up with 100 ft. lines and I also have a 10 ft. lineset I use with them.

The instructions say you can fly it on dual lines. Anyone tried it ? I assume when you connect the bridles its in the sweet spot? Thats the only way I can see it working.

I cannot wait to get more wind so I can try again. I wasn't sure if I was having line issues or if this how they fly. Now i know that this is how they fly I can learn to work with it.

I got another chance at it. winds 15 - 20 mph. The kite pulled me across the field with little problem. The kite needs alot of input though. With the wind pulling you that hard it was difficult to try and keep the handles in the kites sweet spot. I flew Sthrasher38 flexi bullet 4.5 in the same wind and it was alot better experience. Much easier to control and also a lot of pull.

I knew you would like that. It flies alot easer and you can take it to the zenith to get a break. I don't know who is next in line for the Ace But maybe you can ask DaVinch if you can have a try at it may be something you like before you go out a buy.

I took the npw5 out again today in light winds 5 - 8 mph. It would fly good then all of a sudden do something just crazy. A few times it just reveresed right to the ground and a couple times it did a reverse spin to the ground. I think i found the problem though. I was putting the kite away and I unhooked my lines to check the lenghts. WAY OFF !!! the brake lines are the same length, but the powers are longer. One power was about 5 inches longer than the brake and the other about 7 inches longer. So i will even them all up, before next flight. All 4 are suppose to be the same correct ??

Yes, I check the front porch every day when I get home. It doesn't show up on the shipping tracker either. I just hope it's on its way and that there is wind in the box. I have 200/150 lines ordered as well. They will prolly beat the kite here. And yes, I did get the purple one.

We could use some of your rain if you don't mind. They just dropped discharge out of Atlanta's lake Lanier to conserve reserves. It could get ugly if we don't get some moisture back in the ground. We had a mulch pile spontaneously catch on fire last Friday on a job site. Some rain would keep that stuff cooled off.

BeamerBob they all vary alittle bit, but they are roughly $50 cheaper than their site and alittle more on the larger ace's.

Some guy in Australia is selling them at a premium on ebay and I asked him if his customers realized he was selling them for more than they could go to the Pansh website and buy direct, and he said "no, you would be surprised". So I guess he is on their wholesale program too. He doesn't call the kites Pansh, but just "Ace".

I got the npw5 out again the other day. MUCH BETTER. I was able to get my lines all equalized and had a good steady 10 - 15 mph wind. I'm getting the hang of this kite now. these kites need some practice time to keep them flying good and solid. I will say it incase some other newbie is out there considering buying a nasa wing. NPW5's or nasa wings are not the easiest kites to fly for a newbie. I know there are some npw lovers out there so please feel free to chime in and give your opinion.

As far as I have experienced the NPW's aren't very good upwind kites. My ace and 3 meter will go farther out of the window. Still a great buggy engine though, not good for snowkiting, boarding, and of course not kitesurfing. I made mine so it isn't going to be a good of a flyer as the purchased one but I just can't get mine to do the "stunt" flying you see. I can do figure eights and loops but thats about it, anything else and the nose flips down and the kite turns inside out. If you fly an NPW you know what I am talking about. :P
