I went out in wind yesterday 7-10knots and had a good time learning to landboard. Today wind guru predicted 12-19 knots and I had a bit more difficulty. Still learning but was flying my flysurfer 7m. Few times because of gusts the kite inverted and fell into the powerzone so I pulled the safety pin to prevent getting launched. Luckily everything works as its suppose to.

So I understand that wind more in the 8-12 range would be easier for further learning, but I was wondering what kind of variance makes for "gusty". The variable wind seemed more dangerous than if I would have had a steady 19 knots. So the NMS wind guru forcast was 12kts with up to 19kts gusts. What is a reasonable delta for those two numbers. This spot is at 8000 ft and I'm playing up there to get ready for the snowkite season if we get any snow here.

I'd consider anything more than a 5mph difference to be Gusty, some kites handle it well like the PL Arcs, if you've got a race kite in the sky you'll grow to hate a 5mph gust.

your 7m pulse is perfect for landboarding starting at 12 kn up to 25-30kn. Got the same, it is my favorite kite for landbaording

wind ranging from 12 to 19 is a gusty condition, more stable winds would make it easier to learn, but the pulse has so much depower, than you should be able to fly these conditions.

Have you used the trimmer strap, maybe pull it so depower is at max, and gusts will be easier.

you'll notice that you can progress faster in learning landboarding when wind is above 15knots. it gives you the necessary power to gain speed without having to make sins with the kite.
