Power Kite, but no Power!

So like almost everyone else here, I too am a newbie. I got my first power kite last week. I know I'm going to get yelled at for this, but it's a generic ebay kite. The seller had no Idea what brand it was, but I bought it anyway. $15 plus shipping for a power kite was well worth spending, even if it was a no name brand. I measured it out and it's 106 inches in length and 36 inches tall. So i figured its about a 2.6m kite. Its has dual controls, but even has loops to add brake lines to make it a quad, not bad for $15. So i've flown it twice. having a blast both times and getting to know my kite. Its super easy to fly and control. Both times the wind was about 15-20mph. I felt a somewhat good sized pull from the kite, but it definitly wasn't enough to scud behind or jump with. So what do I need to get this kite to pull? stronger wind? Or just a bigger kite?

Hello
Why don't you try to take some pics of your kite (and the lines) and post them here, I am sure that if you do ask the question as to what you bought, someone on this forum will be able to tell you what kind of kite you got, then from there you will be able to find out what you can do, but most likely what not to do.

i bought my kite off ebay but the seller knew what the make was and size it cost me £80 but i must say it can be used for skudding jumping normal flying and everything else ive tryed best £80 i ever spent

Anyway try higher winds be careful though your kite will pull you quickly and probably throw you back down qute hard aswell. And for a kite in that price range it probably would brake if im honest :frog:

Have as much crazy fun as you can, But when the the winds pick up, pack up.

I've just bought a 2.5m non branded kite off of Flea-Bay for a bargain £20 delivered.

Looks a bit like a flexifoil Bullet.

Problem I've got is as I'm a total newbie I haven't got a clue what I'm doing wrong.

As above when bringing the kite across I was expecting more of a pull and that's only when I can get it in the air as it stalls and folds on its self.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers in advance.

(Sorry for hijacking the thread but this was the nearest I could find to my problem and I didn't want to double post!)

I'm in Norwich.

I don't really know what sort of speed the wind was but it did seem quite strong and I was a little nervous of launching for the first time.

(That said it was funny watching my other half run all over the park to try and help re launch lol)

lol, which park do you fly at?

www.xcweather.co.uk. Check the wind speed on that, its usually about right. If its 6mph+, and its not flying right, your e-bay bargain isn't such a beauty.

But it should be fine, so fly it and check the wind speed. 12mph+ tomorow :-D

So far only Eaton Park.

But I'm open to suggestions for other local venues.

Second outing has gone a whole lot better. Got to park where I saw a couple of guys packing up and thought I'd set up near by. (Thanks for assuring me I wasn't doing anything wrong)

Wind was a little stop start but I got a good run at it so all I think my initial failure was not enough wind and maybe a lot of turbulence.

Cheers for the welcome and I think I'll stick about here for a while.

Check to see if it has a split bridle system, that your possibly able to adust the AoA on it... Check all the knots & bridle lengths, are they semetrical, (both sides measure the same lengths)???

If not, then trial & error, finding the right lengths, but what has worked for me, is measure both sets of bridle lines in their respective pairs, (on each side of the kite) then match the shorter lengths or split the difference, between the pairs...

It sounds like a lot of work, but give the kite a real good once over, then do it again & make sure every thing measures the same on BOTH sides of the sail...

I had to do the same on my smaller 72" (RipTide) quad kite from NewTech, it came out of its bag new, as if it'd been made from scraps off the production floor... Bridle connections through bottom of the kite that'd been looped through seam stitching on the top side (causing deep puckers)... NO QC...!!!

Bridle lengths different on both sides... With those things fixed & by adding power rings, now its a little screamer, not all that powerful but flys like its on speed...

dxnebula - for the £20 the kite cost me I'm not expecting it to be perfect and if I'm gonna put that kinda time in tweaking it I'll be buying something a little bigger and better put together. Cheers for the input though

Poss a 5.0 Ace or Blaze by Pansh.

Ive been out again for about an hour and went to the same spot as yesterday and I was having a lot more joy than a couple of guys with a 'Symphony' (Of about 3-4m).

Just trying to generate a little more pull and get the kite moving quicker.

Well as I'm just starting out and I only got the kite last week I'm trying to get out as much as poss.

I've been out 3 times so far and I'm thinking I need to go bigger already.

But yeah I'm up for learning and I'm sure the misses would be happy to not be running all over the park!
