I always use 5-6mm climbing rope or the equivalent from a boating store. The ones I've used have had spectra or poly cores, I believe.

I think the mult strand woven cord that B-roc is talking about is the best. Avoid any twisted strand rope, it frays and won't hold a knot very well. If you use any type of tube weave cord you can make knotless loops with a fid.

Does anyone ever use webbing? It's very hard wearing and would run smooth on a harness hook. Easy to sew a loop in each end and make it look purdy to.

I do! Been using it for 7 years. It also adds a little cool factor being different from the norm:wink2:

EDIT:
Btw, I use the soft kind about 1/2" width that you can buy at any rock climbing store.

DaVinch sent me some tape / webbing material. I have it on my bego handles. It is nice.
