So close to the big Five O

I had a fantastic session with the 8m Pulse 2 on skis today!

I traveled 37 miles total and my top speed was 49 mph - I so wanted 50. I tried and tried, but I kept coming in the high forties.

The winds were around 20 - 25 mph and there were some really big gusts on occasion.

I was on an old school pair of 195 slalom skis.

Got a few pics also

Need some more snow...there were some bare spots in places.

Yeah 50 is pretty wicked, gotten that downhill but not on a kite, if you wanted to hit 50 you should have broken out the 19 meter flysurfer!!! LOL!

Awesome, ain't it DaVinch!

I may be getting my first session in tomorrow. We're expecting rain today and the snow is deep right now. Conditions won't be ideal for speed but soon.... very soon.

Yeah...I'm hooked on speed now. I spent another 2 hrs today trying to beat 49.

Best I could do was 46.8.

Maybe a 8m Speed 2 is what I need

Yes  51.7 mph today!

The snow/ice conditions were not the best but the 8m Speed 2 is fast

Winds were around 20 - 30 mph and really gusty with a light rain.

I traveled just over 20 miles total.

This is probably the last time out on the lake this season unless it gets cold again. We’ve had temps in the 50s (F) this past week.

DaVinch -

That is incredible. And this is your second season on snow, right?
I presume you know about the Stormboarding speed rankings - http://www.stormboarding.com/speedranking0708.html. There are a couple speed demons in Minnesota who consistently rank in the top 5, hitting 56- 58. I think their fastest season times usually occur just before ice out in mid-late March, when the lakes look quite a bit like your pic. And the winds are nukin'. A lot of the wind has been missing us lately.

So big Six O next year?

Thanks krumly!

Yes, this is my second season behind a kite on skis. But I skied a bunch when I was younger.

Yeah - 60 mph is my new goal

Way to go Davinch! Very cool.

That's pretty darn fast. Are you a seasoned skier? I also see that you're using a pair of nice long straight skis. I'm guessing that's probably the best bet for speed runs on snow, no?

I think I'd have to invest in a full fact helmet if I was able to get going that fast. Guess they didn't name that thing "speed" for nothing!:tumble:

Wow! Kick butt! That's fast! I guess I need to fly up North and try the cold weather snow stuff for a change next year. It just scares me some since I've never been in snow except for a few minutes. I'm a tropics guy.

The old school slalom skis work well for speed runs

However, I still would like to try a pair of fat twin tips for the deep snow.

I had to get the full coverage to replace my old helmet (crash).

As for the ranking, http://www.stormboarding.com/speedranking0708.html

It only moves me up to 8th place. I even had two GPSs on me today to make sure my speeds were correct

DaVinch -

You are up there pretty good on Stormboarding. You may need to head North to keep skiing, 'cuz I'll bet the fastest times are yet to come! From your earlier posts, it sounds like the wind conditions with the Pulse 2 8m were pretty close to your runs with the Speed 2 8m. You think the Speed has that much more potential? Your runs were only a couple mph different.

The Speed feels like it has more potential for a higher top end.

Today, the kite was wet (rain) and it felt heavier than usual.

One thing that I did notice is how far upwind you can push the Speed 2s - really impressive!

I wish the winds were steadier today. I could catch a gust, but then it would die down after just getting up to speed.

I could have been on something a bit larger also - maybe a 10m Speed 2??

It's probably not so much the kite, but just being at the right place at the right winds/snow conditions.

I’m guessing this is my personal best for this season

Way to go DaVinch....that is Faaassstttt!

Gotta ask though,,,do you ever think about falling when you're going that fast?

At my age (40) I don't really bend anymore and going even 20mph on the playa on a board makes me a little nervous. How do you overcome the fear?

However, I feel a lot safer going fast rather than jumping. Maybe I should just stick to the ground from now on
