aoxomoxoa (fantastic topic) ??

aoxomoxoa, I've heard this word plenty. I'm not sure what it is, I think It means "being in the zone" but I'm not sure.

What is this "aoxomoxoa"? And how does it relate to kiting?

Aoxomoxoa is the GD's third studio album (June 1969 I think) . Arguably one of their best studio albums, perhaps only overshadowed by American Beauty. The title perhaps represents the alpha and the omega, the unknown, the OM...... the beginning and end of all Essence.

Not sure how the album title became connected with kiting. For me, it means being in the Moment, with no focus and all focus. "In the Zone" is as good as any explanation I can come up with.

I have always thought of it as a Zen State of Mind. Like Eli said "in the zone" So focused and aware of everything and nothing at the same time.

Aoxomoxoa in kiting has nothing to do with the Dead album. Here's a blog which cites both a good example, and a *really* good definition, by Andrew "Russell" Beattie:

dave, that's interesting site, thanks for posting the link. I keep re-reading it. seems like there is so much too it, or not so much, hmmm....but it seems very specific, and it gives some pretty specific examples I disagree with, or don't disagree with. I like that it uses examples of kiting.

what if you like untangling lines and are fast at it, not struggling but being? I won't struggle, but I'll dedicate myself 100% "in the pursuit of being and progressing thyself and entertaining others" And like giving a rockin tandem ride to a stranger. which I've done over 300 times, and hearing them squeal through the first turn.

at about 50-70mph buggy, my belly starts tingling. and the air is rushing into my helmet and the lines are shouting back at me. I feel like I"m in the sweet spot, or zone, with myself, COULD THAT BE IT?

I lone out kites often, but once in a while I feel uneasy about handing one off....is that good judgement? Could the moment I make the decision be aoxomoxoa?

could you imagine listening to the GD while buggying. that'd be ROCKIN. lOCKED IN THE ZONE accross the lake bed. wooooohoooooo

Dave, thanks also for the link. I gotta say it tho, (and I speak only for myself) on those rare moments when flying and all is in tune, there is that extraordinary place/time/whatever that I glimpse, sometimes only for a brief moment, other times to the depths. For me that is aoxomoxoa. It can't be defined - each person must seek their own, and take from it what they will. Kinda like Jerry and the boys - take what you will, and just listen to the music play.

Eli, if we ever meet, rest assured I"ll have the ipod crammed full of choice GD for your listening pleasure.........

When DeadHead put up that Combat of his... for the second or two he was in the air... he was locked into the zone (then the ground interrupted his euphoria).

Kites are a wonderful thing.

yep, I think I'll look forward to it DEADHEAD. I'll get to texas or I'll see you at nabx....one way or the other.

That should be a new GD song. "GROUND INTERUPTED"

I've got a sentimental attachment to the GD. I wonder if that affects aoxomoxoa. ?

Looking forward to it Eli - see you at NABX if not before.

I could get very philosophical about the Dead, but this is not the place. Suffice it to say I listen to the Dead not to relive my past, but to save my future.........

And Taper........you sure it was only 1 or 2 seconds??? Sure as he** seemed like a lot longer

This whole thread reminds me of some bathroom wall graffiti I once read at a university library:

To do is to be------Plato
To be is to do------Sarte
Do be do be do------Sinatra

My point: I simply fly kites and buggy because I enjoy it!

Heres my Aoxomoxoa ,After being one of those strangers Eli takes for a ride in 05, I had no camera and should have #@%$#! depend's diapers  It was a scream and gave me courage to break out my kites.being new ,I chose a skytiger 4 m in 25 mph winds ,I weigh only 155 and had no harness.I headed strait down wind and didn't realize ,I don't know how to turn at this speed yet sooooo......I picked a line ,hunkerd down and rode till my arms gave out ,then brought it down slowly before hittin highway .When I came to a stop I thought ,"Thanks Eli" for helping me understand what "Aoxomoxoa" means . My best run till this day and if you remember ELi ? the huge dirt devil that came into camp that day ?The day you and Luk were going 78 and passing me while driving a mustang ,yep to fast on playa, and you still blew buy me !:lol:Looking forward to another run tandum with a camera this year and if ya like ,take my landsailer for a spin:wink2:

I'm planing on grabing an NPW from Sue and hope I can go home with a new setup like bar and kite too.I'm going to bug Glenn Padro ,Fran,Dean, and others on who, what ,where with expieriance but any advice ,will go a long way regarding sameri, gorilla, venom ect....Stay well and get there in one piece Eli ,hope to see you all soon .I day dream all day too !

Corey will set you up, if you need any advice, he's a very good source. would arrange a Peter Lynn buggy with Mag wheels. Corey should have it all in stock, he might be persuaded to keep anything you purchase from him in his closet, ready to ride.

If you want a more substantial buggy, call kite buggy speed shop, they're online, Do you know Ellis? He's got all the Libre products
Depower kites are a ton of fun to buggy with.

Jon Ellis is the guy to talk to about aluminum wheels for buggies. I'm not too sure if there are any in production now, but he usually has lots of stock.

I think there will be kites for you to fly. Blake Pelton is a good dude to grab a Peter Lynn kite to demo.

Yep ,I'll be taking a few friends to Coreys to bug him and check out his shop.I need a Flag pole too.I Know Jon from a few shot car parties in a few Rv's and Peters room one night for a blast with everyone . I didn't know he sells stuff:duh: Last time Blake tossed me some ozone stickers and was always running around so I didn't really bug him.Sedgwick started to set me up and even took me on a tandum ride.winds weren't great on that day .I have split aluminium rims on my blokart and want to swap them on my Peter lynn full race .The solid one piece aluminium rim needs to fit a 1 3/8's outer dimention cause the axle with blokarts are 15 mm .The second Libra in site pic looks perfect if it's 3x6 in rim ? Will Jon have rims with him ?or should I try and get him to bring or ship to me .Be cool if I can grab before I hit the Playa.I looked at the two sites and couldn't find rims except plastic big foots that I have already.I could hang with what I have but thought ,your the man who can set me strait with who's got the hookup. The one guy that tricked his cart with leather hand carved and the other chromed out chopper was "Sweet" ! :D There was some sharp rims on some buggys and tried the split ones on my Blokart but there not cuttin it when it comes to a flat .One piece was the way to go cause the plastic blokart wheel needed no tools to change.ya know something Eli ,the first year there, the one and only time I've gotton a flat ,who help me with his trailer and compresser ? Dave Kennedy, A truely kind person who will be missed but never "Foregotten" in my book. I always set up next to his and Jons Rv cause there a bunch of charicters allright, till late in the evening too.Funny ,you could here Coreys voice in the middle of the playa at night ,thats after the shot cars are rollin.:tumble:Ah,....... day dreaming again !help me get a set of rims and I'll treat ya to dinner ,I'm there 9 days ,:singing: Theres plenty of people i'm sure will help me demo a bar and kite,....thanks..... talk to ya soon !

I didn't spend much time there this year, in on tues and out on wed. got plenty of riding in. my mind wanders sometimes. trying to concentrate on my riding, I was going way too fast, and just zoning. Thinking about the past years, I ride for many reasons. Mostly because I just love being alone with my thoughts while I'm buggying. I don't listen to music, I like the sounds my tires make, the kite lines screaming at me...and just overall day dreaming of my buggy friends here and gone. I really miss the ones that aren't with us today...
