Mood: Go Fly A Kite!

I heard of a mod to get a pansh blaze to fly flatter, but all they did was extend the brake bridles on the tips. Before the mod it was described as handling like the brakes were too long. Not much brake input and wouldn't settle once landed. supposedly this helped. I'm sure someone will have more info. . Thats just the one case I have heard of.

Carved -

The GII's 3 internal straps (2 near leading edge, 1 near trailing edge) are fixed for optimal performance at higher winds - probably 12 mph +). Their low wind performance stinks. In trying to get better low end performance, modders have either tried to let out the trailing edge (spanwise) or pull in the leading edge (spanwise) to lower the AOA the kiet even more so it won't backstall even in low winds. Problem with letting out the trailing edge strap is straps on GII are sewn in at every rib, and if you do it without adding material between cells, the stress goes into the skin.

Gotta say the postings at Arcuser on the mods are less than clear. You have any better description of what the guy did to the kite you saw?

In another post Kent from A Wind of Change says he's done a temp mod at the front center cell where he took a 3/4" dia chunk of dowel and pinched the front strap around the dowel (1 @ ea front strap, I think) and lashed it tight. Sounds like this pulls the cell walls together at the leading edge, whic would effectively lengthen the trailing edge. Might be worth a try, since it's temporary - you could do it thru the inflation or deflation zip.

Sorry about the multiple posts earlier. I thought I'd left the window and lost it while I was drafting it. Don't know what I did to get it posted multiple times.

Look at :

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/mx5alan/arcs/ARCsetup_FAQ.htm. This is the best all around FAQ and info base for PL kites.

Also check out the Arcuser usergroup on Yahoo. Type in "GII Modifications or TET (trailing edge tuck).
