been there done that!.. except

this was on a P.L land lizzard for those of you who haven't been around that long has two ball joints made from pot steal casting that connect the down tube ...over time and hard riding if your not paying attention will crack ...

well it did when I cooking across the lake bed around 30mph when all of a sudden my buggy disappears and now I'm scudding 10-15 feet on the soles of my shoes with not a sign of my buggy when all of a sudden something is grabbing my kite lines over head and crashing down was my buggy that disconnected via at the lower ball joint ....the down tube stabed the lake bed then drove the rest of the buggy up and over me in a heap like a pole vault gold medalist:lol:

no worries.. the lama had a new P.L. comp waiting for me back at camp.....

slide stops work good by shifting your weight opposite of the direction of the rear. this begins the slide.. you now can shift your upper body towards the front of the buggy{ over the down tube} to prolong the slide while holding the lean and control the wing back upwards to the zenith by the time the wing is close to 12:o'clock sit back up right should bring every thing back to center ...

don't forget to look over your shoulder for any other pilots that could be in your blind spot before you commit..... also different tire pressure for slip and grip .. to low of tire pressure won't be as easy to slide the rear end out on the desert lake bed so the pilot will have to get as low as possible in the lean to achieve proper sliding w/o fearing getting abducted out of the buggy

Yep spam reported,

I use the slide stop. I try very hard not to use my feet I did that once at about 20 and had the sore shins from the foot pegs to prove it.

Other tips
Launch to the side of the window.
When lofted remember to redirect.
Working the kite in a sine look out for logs with branches sticking up they are line magnets.

Hitting immovable objects ie: side of building, fence posts or landing on top of a hedge after a jump has worked for me...lol
Actually what about dropping your kite back in the window your power now becomes a huge breaking system. It can rip you out of the bug if you get to crazy but works well.

Dropping your feet when the buggy is moving is not a good idea. If your foot stops and the buggy does not it is going to hurt. Recumbent cyclists refer to this as leg suck. On a bike you pole vault over your leg and you are then slammed sideways to the ground. This is why you seldom see recumbent bikes without clipless pedals.
On a kite buggy you may break your leg or have your body pitched forward on to the buggy's headset. You are less likely to get hurt being dragged out the back using Wolfee's method.
When Dirtslide and I were working on setting up his buggy to work for his partial paralysis, we had to set up something to keep his legs and feet off the ground to prevent this type of accident.
Do not put your feet down until you come to a stop.

Angus once said "Whatever you think is going bad with your feet on the pegs will be much worse if you put your feet down while going faster than you can walk." That always sticks in my head when I've thought about it.
