Kite Repair

I smacked the heck out of a little tree today with my 5m blaze :duh: It was kinda funny the tree bent over and snapped back and all these white blooms blasted off of it. It looked like a tyson punch. The kite got in a good hit on the tree , but the tree bit alittle also. The kite came away with alittle puncture hole in the outter skin. Its nothing major, but I wanted to fix it up so it didn't get worse. What can I use to fix the hole ? Strasher suggested duck tape. Anything alittle more official ?

I have a repair on my symphony from about 2 years ago that I fixed with a clear mylar tape. It was a nasty tear from a chain link fence that a cousin put in it. I put a layer on the inside and one on the outside (maybe overkill). I haven't had to even look at the tear ever again. It was expensive though, probably about $3-5. I saw Jan Hendrik Junker of HQ do a very serious repair on a kite with "spinnaker tape". I'm sure that is good stuff if the HQ director of marketing chooses to use it.

I would go with mylar, or if you are really insane go get a kite-fix set. Don't go with duct tape, and BTW it's duct, not duck tape.

If you are not a fan of tape repairs I recommend sending your kite to Pro Kitesurf (http://www.prokitesurf.com/home.htm) for repair. You can send them pics of your repair and they will give you an estimate. Their work is real nice, they are authorized repair facilities for both Ozone and Flexifoil, and their turnaround time is real quick. They are also good with communicating changes, order status, and cost.

Last year my Bullet 7m was stuck in a large oak tree by a co-worker. The only way to get it down was by chain saw (probably have been put in jail...it was huge) or close your eyes and pull. I had a couple of nice tears. Repair job was perfect and the kite flies like nothing ever happened. They are also a good company if you want to mod your kite.

On another note, the there is a Duck Tape brand out there (http://www.duckproducts.com) that is very similar to the ever so popular duct tape. Many colors to choose from, however I do not recommend repairing your kite with either of them.

Flexifoil - Sabre2 5.0m, 9.5m / Bullet 7.0m
Ozone - Cult 4.5m / Yakuza 2.2m, 3.4m / Samurai2 3.0m / IMP 2.5m / IMP Quattro 1.5m
Peter Lynn - Pepper II 3.0m
Rides - Peter Lynn Bigfoot Buggy / Flexifoil Buggy / MBS Mountainboard
Harness - Dakine XT Seat / Ozone AccessXC D-Ring / Ozone AccessXC Spreader Bar

there you go. When I did this repair I was buying stuff from into the wind, so I bet they have it. It is clear but shiny. White ripstop would be better on a Pansh.

The ripstop tape is great for small holes. If you have a boating store in the area, they'd sell you some Spinnaker repair tape... (ripstop tape). Always a good thing to have some of it on hand just in case. If you can weasle you hand into the kite, you can tape both sides of the hole to make sure the kite does not "stick" together.
