Sprang Thang 08
Hey Sailors,
Just a note of welcome and an invitation to join us at El Mirage Dry Lake (Elmer's) for our Sprang Thang - May 31- June 1, 2008
Elmer's is in the Mojave Desert between Victorville (on I-15) and Palmdale, California.
Thangs are informal, non-structured gatherings of wind-worshipers, buggiers, landsailors, kgb'ers etc.
We meet at Walt's Cove, about 3-4 miles up the lakebed on the right side.
We've been gathering like this since 1994.
We choose the weekend AFTER Memorial Day to help minimize the impact of motorcycles and atv's on our enjoyment (peace and quiet).
We also meet here right after Labor Day, in the fall.
Fall Thang dates to be announced soon.
Keep informed.
Visit our site: www.buggythang.org
See you on the playa.

Oh Baby,
My mudding days are over.
It was OK until the mud started to dry.
The mud that went up the legs of my shorts especially.
Washed those clothes in the next load when I got home.
Stained everything in the washer.
I still wear them for working around the house.
Elmer's stays with me.

On the last Sunday of NABX we made a late night drive with the rental car packed from Ivanpah to the El Mirage area to put gear in the storage locker
there. The drive time was about three and a half hours going West which included a sand storm from the high winds on the interstate and traffic
because of everyone driving back to L.A. from Las Vegas on Sunday night. Coming back East it took about two and a half hours with barely any traffic
and the wind on our tails. I am not factoring in the half hour stop at The Mad Greek in Baker. Which is a necessary diversion on any trip passing it.
The Mad GreeS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s strawberry milk shakes are worth a journey by themselves.

Just thought I'd drop a quick note to say "cya there" ;-) Sue and I (and perhaps some new buggy'ers too) will be there Friday evening.
Can't wait!

Hey Sailors,
Looks like some good weather for the Thang.
Reports call for south west winds (and not the nuclear kind either)
Lets do line of buggies through the puckers.
See you on the playa.

Hey Sailors,
Just a quick post-event note.
Had about a dozen vehicles and some 18 or so folks show up.
Darrin and Susan brought Aaron Champie for his first desert experience.
My guess is he'll be back.
Steve (The Master) Bateman brought his steady girl Cindy back for more.
Bob and Petra showed up from Switzerland.
Scooter and Rosie also brought friends out to the playa.
JD, Sam, Marty, Ed and myself filled out the bachelor quarters.
A few day-trippers showed too, like Big Lou, adn I guess they're mostly coming back again too.
We missed the Wind Wizard, due to health issues, but he'll be back too.
I don't really publicize the Thangs as they are intended to remain somewhat small and intimate.
A large group of attendees seeking to be entertained is not our goal.
A core group of participants is enough.
We'll do it all again in the Fall - Right after the Labor Day weekend.

I'm really bummed out that I had to miss this Thang.. Fortunately the medical issue [a kidney stone] is resolved for the time being..
If anyone has pictures that they'd like to share please send them to me, windwiz@windwizard.com and I'll post them on the Picasaweb site..
Stay tuned to www.buggythang.org for dates for the Fall Thang in September as soon as Corey gives me the dates..

Great fun! Sometimes too much wind but never enough time for hanging out with new and old friends. We stayed until Wednesday then headed to Sequoia
National Park (which, by the way, was also great!). We missed you Dan and where the heck was Dooley? See you guys next time we're able to drop in.
