NABX WiFi

I have Sprint wireless braodband and a wireless mesh system

the access I'm providing will work for e-mail and basic web surfing, no videos/VoIP though. This will be free, donations accepted.

It will be up at the conference when I am there. If anyone has 12v power or 120AC available that wants to host connectivity gear let me know. depending on what power you have available and how long your at NABX the internet could be up all week. (I'm staying in buffalo bills every other night)

If you have a internet connection and want to help add a feed to the network let me know, the mesh will take multiple feeds and use them to speed things up. I have a spare router that takes a PCMCIA card, or can set up your laptop as a feed/router.

in primm there is a pay-per-use network (cheetah systems I believe) using a DD-WRT'd router I was able to "share" one paid account to my neighbors in the hotel.

so post here what you have available to help/questions/comments/concerns.

anyone want to know my setup?

Maybe latecomers could use your setup to register on site. Just a thought.

Having an internet connection on site would help a great deal, and not only for late registration, which will be a major bonus to keeping our people in their buggies and not hanging around the tent dealing with people that some how or another didn't manage to get it together!

NABX supports this effort and will do whatever we can to see to it you have power and any thing else we can provide.

Thank you so much for this awesome contribution to our community buggy town!

If she is up for it, she can be one of our guest photographers. We need daily pictures posted on the web site during the event, and of course uploading these has always been a problem, so it sounds like we are really on to something here!

Mood: Almost on the playa, cant wait!

I'll be out with my Dad and we'll be staying on the playa in his 5th wheel all week. We have pretty stout batteries that we charge daily with an AC generator. Provided it doesn't use a huge amount of power, we'd be able to host it safely in our camper and keep the connection live all week.

I'm steven murphy, will be my second nabx(bought a buggy from dean last year), third for my bro alan (had the toyota truck with problems a few years ago)

I'm also goin to have a live webcam up as well I hope, 30 sec updates on the trip (live while driving) there, pre-event, then at ivanpah, will post site here once I get it up and running. it will be taken down if it's too much of a bandwidth issue.

anyone have a good solar panel source/suggestion? I have good gel cels that'll power most this for the week I think, but looking at a charging solution.

some of my mesh units will also have a solar power setup to them, so will just need good placement, one at the big tent, another wherever. will be a good experiment, by the second day at the main event all should be set and secure.

chip, thanks for the offer, will see you there to get it all setup. I have an antenna than just needs near window/high up setup.

crash and daughter, should work out great, probably stick away from large file size picture uploads( the connection should get ~1.0 Mbs down, 300K up).

last year talking to staff at bills, they were planning on in room/hotel covered access. I will investigate this and see what we can do with it :)

got the wifi set up wendsday fully, getting 100kbps symetric, better than dial up, had the wrond gear sent to me last week or we'd have DSL speeds, it'll be up most of the day, off at night to save power, if its out then georges power went out, we think we fixed that problem, have the tent hall and most all of camp covered in the mesh.

I tried, but I couldn't connect to the internet. I was connected to you, but couldn't access the internet. I'm not that computer savy and didn't try to hard. Thanks for supplying it and all your work to get it done.

Checked it with that little Nokia 770 and got a connection without any issues. Didn't use it for anything though as I was staying well away from my emails for the week:lol:

Hey Steven,

Great work on the Wi-Fi bro. It is a great convenience to allow daily updates on the site.

I am sorry that the rig didn't work in the hotel though. It just wasn't flying.

Before next year why don't you and I get together here in my lab and we will put together a solution and get it tested so it will be alot easier for you to setup next year. We may be even be able to get a link to Primm " Line of sight allowing ". A little beer, some grilling and flipping circuits sounds like a good day to me. :)

Cheers!!!
