anybody else carry a blade when kiting? I have learned from my tree killin' days, that when around lines ,ropes and the fact that Mother nature can cause things to go awry. Usually at the wrong time. So I always have an assisted opening S.O.G. Flash 2 w/ a paracord pulltab.It has a belt clip, so I clip it in my front pocket with the tab hanging out so I can pull it out fast in an emergency. Could save you or someone else.

I used to carry one but never had an oportunity to use it. It finally rusted out. It's been 10 years of powerkite flying and no problems yet.

I carry mine, well whenever I got my clothes on.But I use it at work to cut rope,lagging,fitters that leave to big of a gap! etc.. I don't want to be in the situation where I could solve this problem if I just had something sharp! And I guess it's a good thing that you never had to use it,cause it would mean the s$#@ hit the fan.:o

Is this like a hook knife? I have one left over from paragliding stuff. Hmmmm. I guess, even with kite killers on, I couldn't totally "let go" until I got them off, should my kite be dropping onto a power line, or such?

Yeah I 've got the one that comes with my Mystic harness- it's a hook knife. Use it more for making strops and such.

I have the one that comes with the Dakine harness. I find it's a pain to pull out from it's pocket in the back. When a local got dumped in the glacier fed waters of Squamish his hands were too frozen to pull it. I was always scared of not being able to get at it with ski gloves on.

I know also have one tucked in to the padding of my helmet with a little pull ball that hangs out. It is super easy access and I'm more confident I'll be able to use it if I have to.

I also carry a swiss army knife ! Everything I ever needed to know about life I learned from watching McGiver :smug:

I don't carry one on land because it's fairly easy to see lines laying around, but this summer in NY you bet, kitelines float in water and are hard to see if you crash, always a good backup. It's even in my PL twinskin manual that you should carry one.

love McGiver, he's my hero. I can hardly bring myself to let go of the handles, even with kite killers... Don't know If I could cut a $60+ line set. :duh: I do agree that some quick way to cut one's self completely away from the kite would be smart.

I keep a hook knife in the leg pocket of my wetsuit. Not sure where Ill carry it once the water warms up.......
