Foil Database?

I'm not sure if there is something out there already, but I'm considering creating a "living" document that lists every foil and surf kite which I can find info for with the sizes available per model and Aspect Ratios. Perhaps a Wiki type site would make it widely available and updates could be made easily.

What are your thoughts/opinions?

Chris sounds like a good idea, I might add that including the recommended line strength may be a good addition.

now that would be great. early models and successors would also be helpful esp. starting out the used gear is a good access point for new flyers . the gear selection out there is huge.
Looking through all the info can be baffling for thin experienced. foils/open cell/ closed cell/single skin /dual line/quad line/ control bar/ fixedbridle/ depower/ lift / traction/ lei/ twinskin the list goes on and on. terminology/glossary would be a needed section.

Not quite as much interest as I'd hoped for all of the work. :piggy:

Chris - Your database sounds like it would be a lot of fun to create, but I think managing it would be quite a bit of work...then it becomes a chore... The data inside would be helpful, especially if you could compare foils side by side. The comment about line strength would be subjective though...how much you weigh, what you are doing with the kite, and wind speed.

What could be cool is if you could create a series of check boxes that list your weight, wind conditions, and what you are riding. Then it could give you a list of recommended kites based on your parameters. You could even refine the selection by price range, then get fancy and list a link to where you could purchase the kite. Maybe you could get some kick back money if you recommend their store for purchase? Maybe put an advertisement up or two.

There is quite a bit you could do with this information, I just think the maintenance would become huge.

I do however give you some serious kudos for the idea. It definitely got my mind thinking about things that you could do with it.

Flexifoil - Sabre2 5.0m, 9.5m / Bullet 7.0m
Ozone - Cult 4.5m / Yakuza 2.2m, 3.4m / Samurai2 3.0m / IMP 2.5m / IMP Quattro 1.5m
Peter Lynn - Pepper II 3.0m
Rides - Peter Lynn Bigfoot Buggy / Flexifoil Buggy / MBS Mountainboard
Harness - Dakine XT Seat / Ozone AccessXC D-Ring / Ozone AccessXC Spreader Bar

Well, I had written a nice page of ideas, which I accidentally lost.

Basiclly, I am willing to host, and moderate the site, if the community is willing to contribute content. If its a wiki style, the community can contribute content, and moderate content.

I suggest we don't focus on new content to start off, just link to pre-existing reviews from Race Kites and the countless forums across the interweb.

I'll get something together in a bit. I just got caught up with another project.
