WINDY
Yesterday we had some nice windy conditions. 24 gusting to 36 mph! Today by noon should hit 20-25mph. I wish I could have been flying because by thursday they are calling for 101-102 degrees around here. It has been 75-80
degrees So a 20-30 degree rise in temps should drop some people so if you live in nor-cal make sure you drink up and dress light. I rememer trying to
kite in the heat last year it is an experience you will not forget.

You just have to know the history of Davis. That town is very green, bicycle, and recycle friendly. Its all about saving the environment. All the
story of Davis are true. It is the ONLY town that I know of that has installed a tunnel specifically so the frogs can cross the street without
getting smashed. I just wonder who trained the frogs to use the tunnel. :wow:

True fact,
The sign (as in sign language) for David is made by forming your hands into the letter "D" then make bicycle pedeling motions with your hands.

Jason, I sent you a U2U with basic sod farm rules. I will be at the farms today at about 2:30pm. The land is private property and I am the one the
owners will go to If there is a problem so I just want to meet people before they go out there.

That frog tunnel is so stupid, everyone I know thinks it is a big joke. I think they put a camera in there for a month and saw no frogs/toads using
it.

Dagon is a cool guy! And a great dentist. Follow all rules if there is any sod left. I'm Sick now everyones going to the sod farm! If I would have
read this sooner I would have gone just to watch. I can still help set up and all that I just can't fly yet. This is killing me.:flaming: 20mph in
Davis right now. Have fun. Let me know how it goes if I don't make it. I can't even drive yet and my woman has the car so I am screwed.

You guys all suck - I wanna come too! Being chained to a desk is the worst during days like this. Nice day, good wind, cool people going to the sod
farm...and I have to work. It is real tough for me to get out during regular business hours, but that is also the best time to go too when you
consider crowds.
You'll have to let us all know how it was. We can live vicariously through your buggy adventures.
I am going to try and hit the beach this weekend to make up for it...
BTW, has anyone been to White Lake yet?

don't worry man it was terrible out there today...gusts..direction shifts....dead air..and they moved the field's sprinklers around which they often
do, so the run was too narrow for length.. I went out today and the bug worked well although I got yanked out at an odd angle ..it was during a
sliding turn...i went straight up and over the side rail about ten feet...I landed on my feet stumbled and then fell to my knees ..and then a gust hit
me hard ......I glided along on my knees (with pads) for about 5 feet and then was levitated about a half a foot and remained airborne like that for
about thirty feet with my toes dragging behind ....what a weird feeling..Windy was mad today....I think she's pissed because somehow she got suckered
into pushing a heatwave into northern California.....its going to peak 100 tomorrow.....anyway I was flying a 5.5 and it was frightening so I switched
to the 4.5 and went really quickly to the middle of the sod field. Then she got annoyed and left me there..... got stuck in the middle of the field
and walked the walk of shame...was it something I said?

I agree, it was crap today, I went out to the field off of montgomary ( the one you all went to on saturday) I flew my 4.5 razor and it was rough, I
got picked up a few times as well and then it just died. when I went out there there was a UC Davis bus that emptied out students and they were all
looking at the sod and harvester, must have been some agricultural class. It was nice to have an audience for a while. And also the wind flowing
through the wheat on the adjacent field is a beautiful sound
I saw Art, he is the forman for the fields. He is about 50, hispanic, he can be seen driving a very nice pickup with the sierra sod logo on the side.
We chatted for a bit and I asked him if I should tell my friends anything about respecting the fields and he said "nah, what you guys do doesnt do
any damage, Ive seen the other guy (art_lessing) out here and he's a nice guy" he also told me there are tons of sod farms in this area, he said
there is one out on road 29, a big one he said we may have to go check it out. If it is nice we should approach the owners with a gift basket and
signed waivers of liability.:singing:

I am going to be heading up to Reno next week - I get to move some art work around in the airport - during lunch I will try and sneak off for a quick
conditions check of white lake - for anyone thinking about Ocean Beach this weekend (5-17 5-18) the temperatures are heading over 70 which means that
there will undoubtedly be hordes of people down at the beach - next weekend (5-24 and 5-25) the temp is coming down but the low tides are only at 9am
- the weekend after that looks better with tides at 2:45 and 3:30. Hey Skipp good to hear you didn't get killed - #@%$#!ty that your hobbling for a
while though - well as you've been hearing right now hasn't been the best time to buggy - locally its #@%$#!ty when it's hot and Ocean Beach can be
on and off again - white lake is fun but as I've been seeing on other posts you really need to prep for the conditions - hot but tolerable. Talk to
you soon and take it easy meng.

The wind has been comming from the north here in Davis, the sod farms are in south davis and there is a tree line immediately to the north so the town
and the trees really breaks up the winds to make it choppy.

Thanks Dagon for the PM, I will make sure to follow the rules.
You guys are an awesome group, I hope I can spend a lot of time out there.
That Saturday we were out there was crap too, at least while I was there. I bailed out around 4 or so, it seamed to be picking up right about that
time.
I did get a half of a run with Dougs buggy. Made it 4/3 up the field then the wind died as I turned around
I had to take the walk of shame as well.
It looks like tomorrow may be a good day, and the weather is suposed to drop to low 80s this week. horray for that.

The trip to reno was postponed till ??? So I'm going to give a call out to the 7-11 there and see if they can give me some info on white lake. to
skip - the 4.9 blade was my favorite kite until I smashed it into a log down at ocean beach - another good kite I need to have fixed. Other than that
the 2m ace I just picked up is a little power house - gotta be careful with this one - feels more like a solid 3m than a 2. I go through my quiver
depending on conditions - I still have my 4m blade - but I'm very cautious when I get this one out - the winds gotta be just right and not gusty(about
12 to 18mph). Hope your foots getting better and I'll let you know next time we head out for a fly.

Just called a few businesses on the shore of white lake - one had no idea if the lake was dry, but the other said it was dry - it didn't sound like an
absolute (he was kind of curt) - so by best estimates the lake is open for buggying ... maybe. Sorry I can't be more specific but I might be able to
go up next week.
