We are very fortunate to have a kite-friendly local government (Jekyll Island Authority) who support our efforts to promote kiting and keep things
safe. It's also a blast to be able to chase down the Georgia Highway Patrol and buzz their truck in the buggy to the cheers of on-lookers.
The best spot is an area we have adopted as "kite beach"- in front of Blackbeard's Restaurant, 1/2 mile north of where you drive on to the island.
There is a large sand bar there at low tide. It is also between two public access ramps and there are typically not a lot of sun-bathers there.
Kiteboarders like surfing over the sand bar and the currents are favorable. I enjoy the room on the beach in the bug, even when crowds are elswhere.
