So I met up with Jockeys today and he let me have a try at the Pansh Ace 6m. Holy crap what a kite!!! Talk about pull!!! First time ever flying one and took me for a ride. Had a blast. Only had it in the air for a short time, but man was it fun. Certainly not a beginner kite. I am seriously considering the Beamer 3m...or something else in the 3m range but I cant wait till I can handle one of the big boys.

I did the sam thing today man. Flew my first power kite and went home with a 3m Beamer. From reading on here it is the best beginner kite that you will NOT out grow. Cant go wrong with that. Best part is that it comes with everything you need to get started. Lines, handles and even a kite steak

like the pansh 5, gave mine its first river washing today (in one flowing onto the beach I fly) in about half a year, seams all clean, fabric still crispy, bridles still stretchy (about 5 - 8 cm now on a hard bodyweight pull on one power line, i reckon), it's a first-gen ace from june 07 with at least 100, if not 200 of solid flying time on it (never mind another fifty hours in winds barely enough to scud, not enough to jump: that "at least you're flying something" sort of wind), I've modded it a bit but it's second only to my blade and much much nicer in gusts.

managed to get a few semi solid jumps (w/ a bit of body english) out of it today in 6 mph winds gusting about 10-12 mph or so, it's still doing alright.

consider the ace 4 as a challenging first kite (I'm assuming you're a bit heavier than my 155, being texan / american and all that) that will give you a steeper and quite possibly risker learning curve to surmount, but will also and at the same time teach you all you need to know about why you should blow your money on much more expensive kites later...

any irony above is of course unintended.

Count me in. Wont be getting my first for about a month. Have to quite smoking first. So anytime you get bored with the Ace...you let me know lol

Just remember to be cautious with that big Ace. That's a lot of kite and it will pick you up and DROP you down if you aren't careful. When in doubt pack it up and kite another day. :!:

It will lift good and float you fine as long as you understand AND can perform a redirect. If not then refer back to the x-rays.

the guy in the x-rays didn't redirect. He sent the kite to one side and turned it as sharp as he could sending the kite back toward the zenith which lifted him off the ground considerably. When the kite got to the zenith, he should've made a turn with the kite to keep it overhead to float him down. I understand he didn't do that and since the kite had picked him up rather high, and he didn't make the turn at the top, the kite dove to the ground as he froze up not having the experience to develop instincts of what to do in such a situation. The kite actually hit the ground before he did, accelerating him down faster than mere gravity and generating some ground speed at the same time. Jumping is for fliers (at a minimum) that know what the kite is going to do before it does it. Then take baby steps with a suitable kite with safety gear on. Helmet at a minimum.

have learned this the hard way. if you let yourself swing too far under the kite, life is gonna suck. thankfully I haven't broken anything, just some minor cuts and scrapes. learning how to do the paratrooper roll or a judo fall is super helpful.


when coop and I were flying there wasn't much wind (so little, in fact, that my other kite wouldn't stay in the air) plus I equipped some kite killers that day, with a safety briefing that consisted of: "alright dude, if you feel yourself getting pulled off the ground, let go of the handles!"

They best moment that day was on the nd launch I think and I got it up in the air and it went straight up to the Zenith and I was able to hold it steady for a bit and I hear "You got it dude!!" It was at that moment that I knew I was hooked..hehe. Then it decided to fly over my head and behind me and I was screwed...didnt know what to do and the kite promptly folded in on itself.

i taught a 13 yr old kid, 130 lbs, to fly an ace 5 in 5-8 mph winds on hard sand the other day, and after 30 minutes of close guidance and ten crashes, he was just able to scud a few feet without losing his balance. On soft sand he'd still be holding his ground most of the time.

The next morning he told me he was dreaming about kites all night... :karate:
