The true History of kiteboarding.

There is a fantastic article on page 115 http://www.iksurfmag.com/

It is about the best description of kiteboardings history that I have ever found.

I didn't get going at it until 2003 I saw a T.V. show featuring Cory in about 2000 and was hooked at the site of him out on the Kite Ski ( similar to my C-quad :singing: ) . I never expected it to become accesable so fast !

From the 1st Time I watched the Red Bull king of the air Video. Flash and his skim board / flexifoil background was my man !!!

Now we are fitting them to ships ! That was a kid flying a foil in Hollands dream and even it is coming true

If you don't have time to read the whole article. The 1st few pages are still worth the time. I find the very begining of the sport to be most interseting.
The fact it became so accesable so fast still amazes me

I have a Quadrifoil for sale. Great kite! Anyone have a Quadrifoil board for sale? I've been looking for one for quite sometime. They were made by Fox up in North Carolina-very nice boards. Fox also made some kiteboards as well. Wish I still had mine.

The beginning was great for me. I started kite flying in the 80's pretty hardcore. Then started to sort of traction kite fly in the mid 90's pulling myself around on rollerblades with my stuntkite. Finally got a surf kite in 1998, moved to the Outer Banks North Caroline and worked at Kitty Hawk Kites for a couple of months in 1999(sort of). I broke my leg about 2 weeks before I was supposed to goto OBX. I couldn't really work what they hired me to do. But I went kitesurfing a bunch after my leg healed some and meet the Quadrifoil guys. It was great up there at this time because there were only about 4 or 5 people kitesurfing total including me up on the Outer Banks. It was a blast.

Kept kitesurfing hardcore throughout 2000, 2001 and early 2002 (Jan/Feb). In Feb 2002 I won the Asian Windsurf Tour kitesurfing championship but in March 2002 I had heart surgery:no: After that I didn't really kitesurf all the time. It wasn't until 2006 that I started to really ride more often. Now it's more of an occasional indulgence than a full time job.

It's been a fun 10 years. I'm still flying the kites I really started kitesurfing with back in 1999/2002.

tell me about the quadrafoil, and handles/ bar/closed cell/ 4lines ?whatever.
your weight, board size and type, conditions you prefer to run it in. and oh yeah the $

i really want a big twintip or directional, any favs? esp. directional
a directional really looks fun, i have really enjoyed the JL133, a fast action twin tip, i think most would consider it small for my size and experience level. love the landings on it and it cuts like a razor. i'm 6'0" @205lbs.

any thoughts on converting a regular surf board, i am not a surfer BTW (never tried) don't know that much about it.

this is a major high jacking with a high degree of relevance. VINTAGE SPAWN!

I read the article and it missed a few good points. They missed the relevance of the Kiteski rig and I don't remember reading anything about Flysurfer kites or how popular F-One and Concept Air kites were. All in all a good article. The cool thing is the Quadrifoil, JoJo and Flexifoil kites are all just as good flyers now as they were then.

If your handy with fiberglass you can install some footstrap plugs into a surfboard and add a layer or 2 of reinforcement over the area where your feet are.

I have a review of the Quadrifoil Kitesurfer XL in the surf kite review forum. I'm about 5'8" and weigh 200.

Yes I agree.
There is so much cool stuff to tell about that period. Cory blowing them away a the windsurf comp's with the kite ski, His reel bar, Flash the " Floridian jumping bean " showing up and catching Robbie's attention, How Flash figured it all out on his own and rode the Florida coast with adds on his Flexifoil and skim board, How Red Bull was involved with the King of the Air comp's. ..........

And of course our beloved Canadain roots in Concept air. At least they touched on these subjects !

I'm so bummed I sold my Kiteski rig :ticking: The new LEI kites were coming out and I had to get one of the latest and greatest kites. Which means I had to sell the Kiteski which was yesterdays news. Now I bet an original Kiteski rig is worth a mint while whichever LEI kite it was I wanted isn't worth the material it's made from!

Anyone have some interesting stories about their first surf kiting experiences? How about some old pictures? Here I am flying my Wipika in the Outer Banks North Carolina back in early 1999.

For me I loved to fly my Wipika kite with the big reel bar from my Kiteski rig. It was so easy to unroll and launch the kite. The reel bar made it a snap to roll the lines back up.

That's before I discovered foils for kitesurfing.
